Have you ever BOO'd your neighbors or friends? Last year I put together a BOO kit in a crocheted Jack O Lantern basket and I really loved the way it turned out so this year I thought I would do something similar but with a different crocheted container. I decided it would be fun to make a cauldron shaped basket to fill with candy and other fun things. BOOing is a fun way to get ready for Halloween. It is always fun to surprise someone with candy, a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker, family member (I chose to BOO a family member), or anyone else you can think of that could use a surprise treat. Deliver it to them secretly and challenge them to do the same for someone else.

Once again, like last year, I went to Walmart to find some candy and stuff to fill up my basket. I picked up a huge bag of MARS® Halloween candy, good stuff like SNICKERS®, TWIX®, and Starburst®. I also added a few things from American Greetings like some fun Halloween printed tissue paper and cute little stickers. Hover over the picture above to see where you can buy them for your own BOO kit.

I crocheted the cauldron using multiple strands of yarn so it is really sturdy and holds its shape really well. One of the fun things about making a container like this for your BOO kit is that the person you give it to can reuse it, it makes a perfect Halloween candy dish.

How to Make a Crocheted Cauldron BOO Kit

You will need:

  • 2 skeins black worsted weight yarn
  • J crochet hook
  • yarn needle
  • scissors
  • MARS® Halloween candy
  • tissue paper
  • other fun stuff you want to include
  • BOO card

Instructions:

The cauldron will be crocheted holding 3 strands of yarn together, I used 2 skeins to do this, one pulled from both the center and the outside, one pulled from the center only.

Begin with a magic circle, working with 3 strands of yarn, work in a continuous round not joining after each round.

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitches] repeat around (30 sc)

Finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Make 2 handles

ch 12, sl st in first 2 ch, 2 sl st in next ch, sl st in next 6 ch, 2 sl st in next ch, sl st in last 2 ch, finish off, cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Sew one handle on each side of the cauldron near the top
