5 Little Monsters: Cobble Stitch Dishcloth

Cobble Stitch Dishcloth

Today I am again joining a group of craft blogger friends to make a project based on a specific supply or material. Last month was a little challenging for me because our material was Washi Tape which I haven't really used a lot. This month was a little different, the challenge material was yarn or fiber. I use yarn all the time so this time the challenge was more of having too many projects rather than no ideas. I ended up decided to crochet a dishcloth because it has been a while since I posted a dishcloth pattern. Plus, dishcloths are a fun way to try out new stitches. For this one I used the cobble stitch, a stitch I had never used before but that gives a really great scrubby texture to the dishcloth.

The cobble stitch combines treble crochet and single crochet to create the bumpy texture. I finished it off with a simple single crochet border.

How to Crochet a Cobble Stitch Dishcloth

You will need:

  • Cotton Yarn ( I used Lily Sugar N Cream in Ecru)
  • I crochet hook
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Instructions:

For this stitch pattern you need to start with an odd number of chains (plus 1 for turning) I used a base of 25 ch but you can easily adjust that to make a larger or smaller cloth.

ch 26
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (25 sc)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in first stitch, [tr in next, sc in next] repeat across ending with a sc in last stitch (13 sc, 12 tr)
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc across (25 sc)

Repeat rows 2-3 until you reach the size you want, end with row 3

Border: ch 1, turn, sc across the top woring one sc in each stitch, 3 sc in corner, turn so you are working down the side, work 1 sc in each row, work 3 sc in corner, turn, 1 sc in each stitch across, 3sc in corner, 1 sc in each row, 2 sc in corner, slip stitch to first sc.

finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends
