5 Little Monsters: Patriotic Mason Jar Cover

Patriotic Mason Jar Cover

The 4th of July is this weekend. I thought it would be fun to make something to decorate for the 4th and I have been wanting to try making a mason jar cover for a while. I thought, why not combine those two things and crochet a patriotic mason jar cover. I thought it would be a cute and festive decoration or centerpiece with some flowers inside. I made it to fit a quart size jar that I had and picked some daisies from my yard to stick in it.

For the cover part I used scraps of 3 colors of Red Heart Super Saver, red, white and blue. It is made using double crochet with one row of single crochet to finish the top. For the red and white stripes I used kind of a cluster or granny stitch, working 2 double crochet in between the 2 double crochet from the previous row. The stars are made separately and then appliquéd on. For those I used a smaller hook and a small amount of Caron Simply Soft in White because it was a slightly thinner yarn and therefore made a smaller star.

How To Crochet Patriotic Mason Jar Cover

Supplies:

  • Red Heart Super Saver or similar weight yarn, small amount of each of the following colors:
    • Cherry Red
    • Blue Suede
    • White
  • Caron Simply Soft or similar weight yarn in White
  • H crochet hook
  • F crochet hook
  • yarn needle

Instructions:

Stars

*make 5

Start with magic ring, ch 1, 5 sc in mr, slip stitch to first stitch to join, pull tightly to close

ch 2, slip stitch in first ch, sc in 2nd ch, slip stitch to next sc (first point made), repeat 4 more times to make 5 points, cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Sew the 5 stars evenly around the blue top section of the cover. Weave in all ends and trim.

Now just slip it on your jar and fill it up. I decided to make mine to hold flowers but you could use it in a variety of ways as a decoration or centerpiece for the the 4th of July.

Have a Happy 4th of July!

  3. Super cute & festive! I've made a few Mason Jar cozies as well, but in just simple, solid colors. Great idea! I bet one with lots of flowers would be interesting too! Inspiring ideas! LOL Because I need more crochet projects! LOL
