5 Little Monsters: Double Cluster Crocheted Hat

Double Cluster Crocheted Hat

In my last post I shared how I used my Criut Maker and Cuttlebug to make embossed leather tags to put on crocheted hats, blankets, scarves, bags, etc. I had the idea for that project but I needed something to put the tags on so that I could see if it worked. I made a quick hat to try it out and now I am going to share the pattern for that too.

I wanted a really neutral colored hat so I chose a cream color. I made the hat using 2 double crochet clusters with a ribbed edge made with front and back post stitches.

How to Make a Double Cluster Crocheted Hat

Adult size

You will need:

2dc cluster: yarn over, insert in stitch, yarn over and draw back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over, insert in stitch, yarn over and draw back through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over and pull through last 2 loops

At the beginning of each round instead of working the regular cluster you will ch 2 and dc in same stitch, that ch and dc will be your first cluster

Begin with a magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 2, dc (first cluster), ch 1, [2dc cluster, ch 1] 8 times, slip stitch in first dc to join (9 dc clusters, 9 ch spaces)

Round 2: slip stitch in first ch space, in ch space work (ch 2, dc, ch 1, 2 dc cluster), ch 1, [in next ch space work (2dc cluster, ch 1, 2 dc cluster), ch 1] repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dc (18 dc clusters, 18 ch spaces)

Round 3: slip stitch in first ch space, in ch space work (ch 2, dc, ch 1, 2 dc cluster), ch 1, [2 dc cluster in next ch space, ch 1, (2dc cluster, ch 1, 2 dc cluster) in next ch space, ch 1] repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dc (27 dc clusters, 27 ch spaces)

Round 4: slip stitch in first ch space, ch 2, dc, ch 1, [2 dc cluster in next ch space, ch 1] repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dc (27 dc clusters, 27 ch spaces)

Round 5: slip stitch in first ch space, in ch space work (ch 2, dc, ch 1, 2 dc cluster), ch 1, [2 dc cluster in next ch space, ch 1, 2 dc cluster in next ch space, ch 1, (2dc cluster, ch 1, 2 dc cluster) in next ch space, ch 1] repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dc (36 dc clusters, 36 ch spaces)

Round 6: slip stitch in first ch space, ch 2, dc, ch 1, [2 dc cluster in next ch space, ch 1] repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dc (36 dc clusters, 36 ch spaces)

Rounds 7-11: Repeat round 6

Round 12: ch 1, sc in each stitch around (the tops of the dc clusters and ch spaces), join with slip stitch to first sc (72 sc)

Round 13: ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), dc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch to first dc (72 dc)

Round 14: ch 2, (does not count as a stitch), fpdc in first stitch, bpdc in next, continue around alternating between fpdc and bpdc, join with slip stitch to first dc (72 dc)
