5 Little Monsters: Crocheted Doily Trivets

Crocheted Doily Trivets

Over the past 6 months or so I have sharing a few old posts that I originally shared when I had first started blogging and was a contributor on Craftaholics Anonymous. Most of those projects were posted on my blog a few weeks later but some I never shared here. This is one of those projects and I am finally posting it here.

I thought it would be a good time to share this particular pattern for doily trivets, because they would be great to make for Mother's Day. You could pair the trivets with a pretty baking dish, or just use them as doilies to put a vase of flowers on.

The inspiration for this project was a banner that I had made earlier. The banner had little half doilies along the string. After I made that project I wanted to use that same idea but make it into a full circle.

Even though I was trying to make a doily style project I didn't want to make it out of thread like a traditional doily. I thought that cotton yarn would hold the shape well and be perfect for using as a trivet for hot pans. They work up really quick and are easy to make, and I love quick and easy projects.

I made 2 different sizes. The smaller one is about 7 1/2" across and is basically the same as the original half doily used in the banner. The larger one is made by adding another round of double crochet to the center to make it about 9" across. You could make it even larger by adding more rounds of double crochet before finishing the outer rounds.
