Every month I usually participate in a craft challenge with a group of creative blogger friends. Every month we have a different theme based on a material. Some months it is really easy to think of a project using the assigned material and some months are hard. This month was one of the hard ones. I think it ended up being hard for everyone and that combined with the craziness of the end of the school year led to cancelling the challenge this month. I had already made my project and as hard as it was to decide what to do I was actually pretty happy with how it turned out. Especially since it meant trying something new, something that I had been wanting to try for a while but hadn't gotten around to.

Embellished Baby Hats: Monster and Dinosaur

-This post may contain affiliate links-

Last week I posted a teddy bear hat that I made by embellishing loom knit hats with crocheted ears and mentioned that it was the first in what was going to be a series of embellishments to add to baby hats. This is the second post in that series, how to turn a basic loom knit or crocheted hat into a monster or dinosaur hat.

Easy Mod Podge Framed Art

Today I am participating in another round of Craft Lightning, this time with the theme of "Wood". We were challenged to make a wood project that takes 15 minutes or less, excluding drying time. I thought this one would be a piece of cake but I had a hard time figuring out a project. I had another project in mind and it was a total fail. I had to scratch that idea and come up with a plan B.

Friday night family movie night is something my kids look forward to every week. I'm not sure if it is the movie that they are watching or the fact that they get to stay up late that they look forward to the most but whichever it is, they love it. As a result it is always fun when a new family friendly movie comes out, like Peter Rabbit, which came out earlier this month.

Canvas Art Kid's Craft

Today I am partnering with The Genius of Play, an organization that focuses on the importance of play in a child's life, and I have a fun kid's craft to share to help get kids out from in front of the tv and doing something creative.

Colorblock Trinity Stitch Dishcloths

It has been a long time since I have posted a new dishcloth or washcloth pattern and I have been wanting to for a while. I was really excited when I saw that Red Heart had a new cotton yarn and decided that was the perfect opportunity to come up with a new pattern.

Mermaid Life Shirt

A few weeks ago I was had just finished my crocheted mermaid doll and needed to take some pictures of the doll. I wanted some pictures and video of someone playing with the doll so I asked one of my girls to help me out. I wanted something cute for her to wear in the pictures so I decided to make a quick mermaid shirt for her. It took just a few minutes to throw together and she had a cute shirt to wear. She loved it and has worn it several times since then.

Crocheted Mermaid Doll

My newest pattern for Fairfield World is now available on their site and I love the way this one turned out. This crocheted mermaid doll has been a huge hit with my girls. She is about 18" tall which I thought was a great size to play with.

Embellished Loom Knit Hats: Baby Bears

A year or two ago I shared some pictures of some adorable little fruit hats that my little sister had made using a hat loom and adding a few crocheted elements, like leaves and stems, to make them extra cute. I have had quite a few people ask me about how to make those hats so I decided it was time to make a series of posts on how to embellish loom knit hats with crochet. Although, to be honest, you can use the same ideas and patterns I share here to embellish any plain hat. I have a pattern for a basic crocheted hat in a variety of size from preemie-adult, and you could add these embellishments to those hats as well.

Unicorn Cupcake Toppers

I usually try to make fun cakes for my kids birthdays but I am definitely not a great cake decorator. For my daughter's birthday a couple months ago she told me she wanted a unicorn cake. She also wanted a unicorn cake last year so I decided to try a version of the unicorn cake with the closed eyes that is all over Pinterest, it is usually a tall round layer cake with the eyes on the side of the cake, and a horn, ears, and frosting mane on the top. Sounds easy enough but it didn't quite turn out like the pictures on Pinterest. I think I only used one cake mix, thinking it says it makes 2 layer and that should be enough to give me some height. Not so. It may say it makes 2 layers but only if you want layers that are only super thin, I probably needed more than 2 layers anyway, and a smaller diameter probably would have been better too. My cake ended up big and flat, with barely enough room for the eyes on the side and a mess of frosting for the mane (that's what happens when you have lots of little helping hands). She loved it, it was just not how I was picturing it turning out. When she said she wanted a unicorn cake again, "just like the one you made last year", you can imagine how excited I was.

Makers Gonna Make T-Shirt

Last month I had the opportunity to attend a blogger conference, I talked about it a little in my tiny crocheted owl post, but I had a couple more things I wanted to share about it. One of the things I did this year is make a couple of shirts to wear. Now, by make I don't mean I sewed them, I mean I bought a couple of cheap t-shirts from Walmart and decorated them with my Cricut. I thought I would share them here, along with the files I used to create them.
