5 Little Monsters: Aurora Hat

Aurora Hat

Earlier this year I shared a new scarf pattern, the Aurora Scarf, made with Red Heart Unforgettable yarn. I really loved the way it turned out and wanted to try to design a matching, or at least coordinating, hat pattern. The only problem is that even though Unforgettable is a very pretty yarn, it is not my favorite for making hats.

It is a little thinner than other medium weight yarns, and when I design hats or other fitted items I like to use yarns that are easy to substitute with a similar yarn, just in case someone either doesn't have access to the yarn I used or would just prefer using a different one. So instead of using the same yarn to make the matching hats I used Red Heart Super Saver for one and Loops and Threads Impeccable for the other, yarns that are easier to substitute.

I made two sizes, a child size and an adult size. The pattern is a little different than the hat patterns I usually make. I often do rounds of just double crochet for the increase rounds that make the crown of the hat, then follow with the pattern rounds on the straight part of the hat. This time I started the pattern rounds from the top, so you need to pay a lot more attention to the placement of the stitches as it varies a little from round to round.
