Corner to Corner Heart Square

With Valentines Day just around the corner I have had heart projects on my mind. A couple of years ago I made a large corner to corner heart design, and by large I mean it was baby blanket size, so not huge but the heart filled the entire blanket. This year as I was thinking of heart themed projects to make I thought about how versatile a small c2c heart square could be and decided to make one. 

I considered not making it, or making it and not sharing it here, because I didn't want to be repetitive. But in the end I decided to go ahead and make it and share it. I thought the smaller squares would be fun because they have so many possibilities. 

You can make one out of cotton yarn for a valentines themed dishcloth, which is what I did with the pink square. It is made from hot pink and white cotton yarn and it is about 9" square when finished, the perfect size for a washcloth or dishcloth. Or you can make a 3 or 4 and sew them together in a row for a valentine table runner. Or make a whole bunch and stitch them together into a blanket full of hearts, or alternate them with plain squares. I thought it would be fun to make a bunch in different coordinating colors and turn them into a colorful blanket. 

Whatever you decide to do with them, they are a pretty quick square to make and a great way to practice corner to corner graphs and color changes. And although I made them with Valentine's Day in mind, hearts are good any time of the year. 

How to Crochet Corner to Corner Heart Squares

Finished size approx. 9" square

You will need:

• medium weight yarn in 2 colors (I used cotton for the pink square, Lily Sugar n' Cream in Hot Pink and White, and acrylic for the blue square Red Heart Super Saver in Light Blue, and Bonbon Print)
• I crochet hook (5.5mm)
• yarn needle
• scissors

Instructions:

The square is worked in a 3 dc corner to corner stitch.

Follow the graph working each square as a corner to corner stitch (ch 3, 3 dc) working the blue squares in your main color and the pink in your contrasting color. 

When you finish the square you can either leave it and finish it off like it is, or work an even round of single crochet stitches around the square to finish.
