5 Little Monsters: Crocheted Carrot Drawstring Treat Bag

Crocheted Carrot Drawstring Treat Bag

A few weeks ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a picture someone shared of a crocheted drawstring bag that was a peachy color with green at the top. For some reason, even though the bag was just a normal rectangle shape, and it was peach not orange, and had absolutely nothing to do with carrots, it immediately sparked an idea in my mind to make a carrot shaped/colored drawstring bag for Easter.

I thought it would be an interesting shape to play with and a fun alternative to an Easter basket or Easter eggs. It can be filled with small candies, toys, or treats.

When it is open it has a wider triangle shape so it is easy to get things in and out of, but pull the drawstring closed and tie it up and you have a little carrot.

How to Crochet a Carrot Drawstring Treat Bag

You will need:

  • worsted weight yarn in orange and green (sample made with Loops and Threads Impeccable in Fire Red and Soft Jade Speckle)
  • H crochet hook
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Instructions:

Begin with a magic ring

On rows 3-10 you will be working a double crochet stitch in between stitches, before each 2 double crochet cluster, this is how you will increase on each row. Rather than working in the stitch you will add a stitch by working in between the stitches before working the next (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc). Each section of straight dc will have one of these added at each end, see the picture below.

Drawstring

with green yarn make a chain long enough to go around the opening of the bag (I chained 80), then turn and single crochet in each of those chain stitches, weave in the ends.

Weave the drawstring in and out of the ch spaces in row 14, then pull to close and tie shut
