We have made it to Day 8 of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along and today we are adding a popular side to the summer cookout, a Bag of Potato Chips.

I feel like chips are one of the easiest sides to bring to a summer get together, and they are one that pretty much everyone likes. Because of that I wanted to include chips in my summer cookout series, but I wasn't sure the best to do it. A chip by itself doesn't really lend itself to being made in amigurumi form, so that left me with the idea of doing either a bag of chips, or a bowl filled with chips, and since most chips come in a bag I decided that was the way I wanted to go.

I was trying to decided how to make my little bag of chips look like a bag of chips instead of a bag of anything else and I had the idea to make a little chip to put on the front, kind of like a logo on the bag. I wanted to do a yellow potato chip, but then I was a little concerned about how to add the face. I wanted to make sure the chip looked chip and not just like a yellow smiley face.

To attempt to do this I decided to make a kind of wonky oval shape, hoping it would look more like a chip and less like a circle. Then I added the face to the chip but instead of putting it on the oval on straight I put it on at an angle, and then sewed the chip onto the bag so the oval was slanted and the face was straight. I also added a stripe around the bag, just to break up the color a little bit.

You could make the bag in any color, you could use the color of the bag of your favorite chip flavor, or just a color you like the look of. I used a few different brands for this one, I chose a light blue for my bag, I kind of wanted a brighter blue but I also didn't want to use the same color I had just used for the snow cone so I chose a lighter blue, Big Twist Value in Sky Blue. For the stripe I used Red Heart Super Saver in Soft White. And last but not least I used Loops and Threads Soft Classic in Butter for the little chip.

Come back tomorrow to see what Day 8 will bring to the Summer Cookout!

Rounds 9-14: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)

Add stuffing to the bag before closing in the next step

Row 15: in this row you will flatten the top and work through the front and back at the same time to close the top, because the sts are worked in a spiral they shift a little as you add rounds so begin by working 1 sc in the first 2 sts to get to the edge, ch 2, flatten the top and work through both layer starting by working in the next st and the last st and hdc in each st across (12 hdc)

Finish off, weave opening closed and weave in ends
