Day 11 of the Summer 2023 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, only one more day left after today. I know there is already a bird included in the crochet along with the eagle on day 5, but today is another member of the bird family, a little owl.

Owls are an animal I definitely associate with being in the woods, although since most owls are more active at night and they tend to blend in pretty well with the trees I don't feel like they are one you see very often. But that being said I still decided to include an owl in the crochet along.

I mean, to be fair most of the animals I have included aren't really ones that you see often, just animals you might see. I have seen plenty of snakes and squirrels, a couple of moose (luckily only from a distance or from inside the car) but never a bear, although my sister saw one once when we were camping in Yellowstone when we were kids. She was pretty terrified but I was kind of jealous of her, although I'm sure I would have been terrified too if I had seen it.

The owl is crocheted in the same way as the other animals, the big difference being that I used a larger size of safety eye for the owl. I tried keeping it the same size as the other designs in the series to keep it uniform, but it just didn't look right. So instead of the 6mm eyes I used for all of the others, the little owl uses 8mm eyes. It would also look cute with colored eyes, but the only ones I had on hand were too big for this small of an amigurumi.

You could use any colors you want for your owl, obviously, but I chose a light gray-tan color. I used white as the contrasting color for the face and stripes on the wings. If you were to make a brown owl you may want to choose a tan color for the face and stripes instead. Or you could make it all white and add black to the wings for a snowy owl look. I didn't try to go with the coloration of any type of owl in particular and mostly chose the color I did because I felt like I had too much tan in the set already and wanted a different color.
