It is time again for another Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, the fourth and final one of the year. This time the theme will be Woodland Christmas, and just like the last three it will have 12 mini Amigurumi designs released over the course of of 2 weeks.

My first Christmas crochet along last year was the one that started the Mini Amigurumi Crochet Alongs. I did it as an advent so it had 24 designs, and when I decided I was going to do more crochet alongs throughout the year I thought I would do 12 designs in the spring, summer, and fall crochet alongs, and then do 24 again at Christmastime. Then I did the spring, summer, and fall crochet alongs this year and I decided that from now on I was going to stick with 12. Sharing 24 crochet patterns in 24 days was a lot of work, and although I really enjoy doing them I have found 12 over the course of 2 weeks to be much more manageable.

Last years Mini Amigurumi Advent had a lot of very traditional Christmas items, Santa, elves, snowman, reindeer, tree, present, etc. This year I really went back and forth on what I wanted the theme to be. Did I just continue the traditional theme from the previous year and try to come up with 12 more designs that fit that theme? Or did I go with less of a Christmas theme and more of a winter/snow theme? Or did I still do Christmas but with a specific cohesive theme, and if I did that what theme did I use?

I made a choice and then changed my mind multiple times, and then changed it back again. I actually planned to start this crochet along last week, but it took me so long to make a final decision and start working on the designs that I had to push it back a little. I finally ended up deciding on the third option- still Christmas themed, but a more specific Christmas theme. The theme I chose is Woodland Christmas. It is kind of a less Christmasy, more wintery theme, but still with a touch of Christmas. Think little woodland animals wearing hats and scarves, and other winter/Christmas touches. There will also be some other little nature elements that fit with the woodland theme.

So after all of that, let's get to the details:

When- The 2023 Christmas Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along will begin on Monday November 20. It will run for 2 weeks, ending on December 2. One pattern will be released each day from Monday-Saturday, with no new pattern on Sunday.

How Does it Work- I get a lot of questions about this each crochet along, so hopefully this will make sense. A new pattern will be released each day of the crochet along for a Mini Amigurumi that fits the theme (in this case Woodland Christmas). The pattern will be posted for free on my blog, where it will remain indefinitely, this means that you can join or start up at any time, even after the crochet along is over. I will post the link to the new pattern each day on social media, as well as at the end of this post (this will be sort of a landing page for the crochet along). Once all 12 patterns have been posted I will release an ebook that will be available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry that will include all 12 patterns. This is a great option for anyone who wants an ad-free, printable, PDF version of the patterns with all 12 in one place, but they will still remain free on my blog. The ebook is now available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry

What do you need- As far as supplies go this is a great project for using up scrap yarns that you may have in your stash, and for a lot of the projects you can use any color you want, but below are a few suggestions for yarn colors you may want to have, as well as some other supplies.

  • worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors including:
    • neutral colors for animals- brown, tan, gray, white, black, etc.
    • accessory colors- you could use any colors you want, different ones for every animal if you want, or you can choose a Christmas color palette of 4-5 colors that you can mix and match for all. I chose a couple shades of green, a red, a pink, and a gold. I would definitely recommend including at least one shade each of red and green.
  • G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
  • 6 mm safety eyes (if you don't want to use safety eyes you can embroider them instead)
  • 9 mm safety noses (again, you can embroider instead)
  • stuffing
  • embroidery floss and needle (I mostly use black, but you could also use pink or red for mouths)
  • yarn needle
  • stitch markers

  4. I'm on the mailing list. An addition to the notifications on the blog, will there be an email each day with links? This is the first time I've done anything like this, although I've been crocheting for decades. Looking very forward to it as I was looking for advent calendar ideas for one of my relatives as a gift. Thank you so much, Lynn
