5 Little Monsters: 2022

Top 20 Posts of 2022

I can hardly believe another year is over and we are heading into 2023. Each year I like to go back and look at the projects I made throughout the year and it is fun to see which of those new projects were the most popular. The last few years I have done a round-up of my top 20 posts of the year, and now it is time for the Top 20 0f 2022.

Wood and Paper Mod Podge Christmas Ornaments

I always have so many plans for December crafts, but then life gets so busy this time of year that I never seem to get all of it done. This has been a problem my whole life. I used to make a lot more handmade gifts than I do now, and never seemed to get all of them done before Christmas. I remember as a teenager deciding I was going to make a patchwork quilt for my mom. I stayed up late working on it but when Christmas morning came all I had to show her was a pile of strips of squares that I had sewn together. And that is definitely not the only time that has happened to me.

I can't believe it is already December, but a new month means a new Team Creative Crafts collaboration and this month the theme is Snowman Crafts. Ever since I saw the theme for this month I have known exactly what I wanted to make.

Christmas Cards with Cricut

-This post may contain affiliate links, products used in this post provided by Cricut-

I have wanted to try out Cricut's new watercolor markers and opaque gel pens since I first saw them, and I thought that making some Christmas cards was the perfect opportunity to finally give them a try.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and more specifically November 14th is World Diabetes Day. Type One Diabetes is a huge part of our family's lives, and has been for the past 3 1/2 years, ever since my now 10 year old daughter was diagnosed just after her 7th birthday.

Girl Elf- Mini Amigurumi Advent Day 14

-This post may contain affiliate links-

A few days ago the Mini Amigurumi Advent was a little boy elf and today, Day 14 is a little girl elf. You may have already guessed that there would be a girl elf, I felt like specifying that the other elf was a boy, rather than just an elf, kind of gave away there was going to be a girl too.

Penguin- Mini Amigurumi Advent Day 9

-This post may contain affiliate links-

Today is the ninth day of the Mini Amigurumi Advent, and today's pattern may not be the most Christmasy of all of them, but I think it is still pretty fun. I don't know why penguins so often end up as Christmas decorations when they live at the South Pole, rather than the North Pole, maybe just because they are animals that are associated with snow and winter? I don't know, but when I was trying to come up with 24 ideas for this series a penguin was one of the ones I came up with and I decided to go ahead with it regardless of whether or not is makes sense.

Ballerina- Mini Amigurumi Advent Day 8

The nutcracker ballet is a holiday tradition for many people, and that is what inspired the pattern for Day 8 of the Mini Amigurumi Advent, a tiny Ballerina.

Give Thanks Pumpkin

Today I am interrupting the Christmas crafting to pop in with a Thanksgiving project. It is always kind of weird as a crafter because I want to get a head start on upcoming holidays to make sure I have the projects done before the season/holiday they are for, but also thinking about the current season/holiday and coming up with ideas for that.

Teddy Bear- Mini Amigurumi Advent Day 5

-This post may contain affiliate links-

Today is Day 5 of the Mini Amigurumi Advent, and the project for today is a tiny stuffed Teddy Bear, a classic toy that Santa may have in his bag to bring to little girls and boys on Christmas Eve.

Mini Amigurumi Advent

I am super excited to announce a project that I have been working on- The Mini Amigurumi Advent.

Each day from November 1-24 I will post a new crochet pattern on my blog for a Christmas themed amigurumi. Each one will be small, averaging between about 3"-6", so that they can easily be finished in one day.

Infusible Ink Stackable Mugs

-Products used in this post provided by Cricut, all ideas and opinions are my own. This post may contain affiliate links-

It has been a while since I have made any mugs using my Mug Press, but the weather has turned a lot colder this past week, we even had a tiny bit of snow, and I feel like hot chocolate season has arrived. My family aren't coffee drinkers, but when the cold weather arrives my kids are all about the hot chocolate. So, I figured maybe it was time to make some new mugs to go along with the season.

Click on the link above or the picture below for all of the details on how you can participate, to find links to all of the patterns, and enter to win prizes.

Sunset Kisses Circle Scarf

-This post may contain affiliate links, yarn used for this project provided by KnitCrate.-

Last month I got a KnitCrate subscription box in the mail, part of their knit and crochet club subscription, and in it I received 2 skeins of bulky weight Alpaca/Tencel yarn in a gorgeous red color. With the subscription box you get one knit and one crochet pattern to make with the yarn you receive, but I thought it would be fun to come up with my own pattern to make with the yarn.

Halloween Candy Bowls

I have been trying to finish up a few last quick Halloween projects before I jump into other holiday projects. This one is a super quick project, but also really inexpensive. It was also a little bit of a project fail, but that turned out well in the end, just not exactly the way I originally imagined it.

Halloween Candy Jars

October is here and I have always felt like October is the beginning of the craziest time of the year, the beginning of the holiday season. We have halloween at the end of this month, and then go straight into Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. It is always such a busy time of year with lots of holiday parties, family get-togethers, and school events. And if you are a crafter it is seems especially busy, there are so many projects to make.

Fall Wood Bead and Felt Ball Garland

-This post may contain affiliate links-

This week fall will officially be here, and I am so happy about it. I have been loving the fact that temperatures have been cooling off a little bit and it has been starting to look and feel more and more like fall. However, in my craft room it has been fall for a while. I have been making lots of fall craft projects lately, and todays project is a continuation of that, although it could easily be adapted to work for any season or holiday, just change up the colors.

Bloque Stitch Pumpkins

As I am sure anyone who has been following me for any length of time already knows, I love fall, I love pumpkins, and I love playing with the textures of crochet stitches. Put all of those together and one of my favorite things to crochet in the fall is pumpkins. I have lots of patterns already on my website, some using very basic stitches, and others that use stitches that create really interesting textures. And I am always thinking of new stitches that I think would be fun to try on a pumpkin.

I never really imagined myself being a sports mom, mostly because I am pretty much the most unathletic person ever, but this year my two high school kids are both in sports this fall, one in football and one in volleyball, and they are both hoping to play basketball in the winter. So needless to say our evenings and weekends this month have revolved around practices and games.

It is time again for another Team Creative Crafts Collaboration, and not surprisingly the theme this month is pumpkins. I have been in a fall/pumpkin crafting mood lately so this was a perfect theme for me.

I love the colors of fall, especially the variation you see in the leaves as they start to change, from bright greens to golden yellow, oranges, reds, purples, and browns. It is my favorite time of the year. So with fall just around the corner and the hope of cooler days coming and the anticipation of changing leaves I have been wanting to make something cozy and fall-ish.

Layered Wood Pumpkins

I am not a huge pumpkin fan when it comes to foods and/or drinks, but when it comes to fall decor I do love them. And with the arrival of September comes pumpkin season in my mind. One reason I like pumpkins is that they work so well from September through November. From general fall decor, through to Halloween, and Thanksgiving.

Resin Initial Keychains

-This post may contain affiliate links, I may be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking the links-

Last month as I shared some Harry Potter themed crafts I made some resin keychains. It was the first resin project I shared here on the blog, though we did try a few things as practice before that. When I made them I had a little bit of extra resin left so I used it to make a few extra keychains, specifically using some of my kids first initials.

Hello Fall Sign

-This post may contain affiliate links-

I have a wooden sign that I bought several months ago without a specific project in mind. I had a few ideas but never ended up making any of them, so I ended up just having a blank wooden sign sitting around. I figured with a new season  just around the corner I would finally use that board.

I love fall, it is my favorite season. I don't know why exactly, there are just so many things about it that I love. My birthday is in the fall, I love the cooler (but not too cold) weather, I love the leaves and the colors of everything. Plus fall leads into the holiday season with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other winter holidays, which I also love.

School Supply Perler Bead Designs

-This post may contain affiliate links-

School supplies have been on our minds lately as we have been preparing for the kids to go back to school this week. I actually love school supplies so this is always kind of a fun time for me. I don't know what it is about a brand new box of crayons, or an empty new notebook, but they make me happy.

Trio of Crocheted Jar Covers

-This post may contain affiliate links-

Kids heading back to school in our house always means getting school supplies for home too. Making sure we have everything ready for homework needs, like pens and pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue, all organized and ready to use. There are tons of different ways you can store those kinds of things, but one thing that works great for pens and pencils and stuff like that, and is pretty inexpensive and easy to find, is pint size mason jars. And crocheted jar covers are an easy way to add some color and cuteness.

I know I am kind of late on the back to school stuff this year since school has already started back up in a lot of places, but I am trying to squeeze a few last minute projects in before my kids head back to school next week. If I am being completely honest- I am so ready for my kids to be back in school, to get back into the routine of the school year. Laid back summer is nice, but I am ready to get that structure back, as well as some kid free time during the day to get stuff done. And the truth is, they are just as ready to go back. They miss seeing their friends everyday, and luckily all of our kids enjoy school for the most part.

A new month means another Team Creative Crafts collaboration and this month the theme is back to school crafts. It is crazy to think that summer is already coming to an end and kids are heading back to school soon, or in some places already have. My kids head back in a couple of weeks and we have been spending a lot of time lately getting things ready, going to registrations, school shopping, and attempting to get back in a good routine for the school year.
