5 Little Monsters: Huge Roundup of 50 Book Related Crafts

Huge Roundup of 50 Book Related Crafts

I just finished my 4th annual Book Inspired Craft Week last week, and throughout the week I shared some of the previous year's projects on Facebook, in addition to the new projects from this week. I thought it would be nice to have all of the Book Inspired Crafts in one place. But then I started thinking about other projects I have on my blog that fall into that book or reading related category. I have Harry Potter projects that fall in the "book inspired" category but weren't part of the series, I have bookmarks, library bags, and even shirts that I made for people who love to read. So then I decided to put all of those project in one place and that place is right here- in this roundup of 50 Book and Reading Related Craft Ideas

I am dividing the crafts up into a few different sections, mostly by craft type- crochet, paint, fabric and felt, etc., but some by project type- bag, bookmark, etc. Some projects may fit in more than one category but I tried to divide it out in the way that made the most sense and divided them into reasonable sized sections.

50 Book and Reading Related Crafts

Painted Crafts

First up we have a few crafts that are made with paint-

Stenciled Lighthouse Sign

This project was part of my 3rd Book Inspired Craft Week and was inspired by the book Keep the Lights Burning Abby. It is made with a stencil cut on a Cricut and painted onto a small wooden sign.

Wooden Decorated Book Box

This book box was part of my most recent Book Inspired Craft Week, It was inspired by the book The Witch of Blackbird Pond. This tutorial turns an unfinished wooden book box into an awesome secret hiding place that looks like an old leather bound book.

Greek Demigod Painted Rocks

Another craft from the 3rd Annual Book Inspired Craft Week, this one was based on the Percy Jackson series. Painted rocks are a fun "summer camp craft" and these ones are made with designs inspired by the books.

Crocheted Stuffed Animals, Dolls, and Toys

This next category is a bigger one, and one of my personal favorites. It is all of the book inspired crocheted stuffed animals and dolls, and I added toys to the end so that I could include finger puppets since I felt like they fit with well with the other projects in this category, even though they aren't stuffed.

Amigurumi Donkey

This Donkey inspired by the book Sylvester and the Magic Pebble is my most recent Book Inspired Craft project, the last project that was part of this year's series.

Mama and Baby Duck Plushies

Another project from this year's Book Inspired Craft Week is this plush amigurumi set of a mama and a baby duck inspired by the book Make Way for Ducklings.

Anne of Green Gables Doll

This Anne doll goes along is one that I made several years ago, because the Anne series is one of my favorite book series of all time. It was not part of my Book Inspired Craft Week because I made it before I started that annual series, but it fits well with the concept and I did make an Anne of Green Gables inspired craft.

Cuddly Mouse in Overalls

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a favorite children's book and I included it in my 3rd annual Book Inspired Craft Week with this cuddly mouse plush.

Amigurumi Elephant

This amigurumi elephant was inspired by the book But No Elephants. It was a favorite of both me and my husband when we were kids so I shared it as the very first book in my 1st Book Inspired Book Week.

Crocheted Snowy Owl with Optional Scarf

I made this little Hedwig as part of a Harry Potter themed blog hop I did with some other craft bloggers. You can leave off the scarf and make it just a snowy owl, or add the little removable scarf to turn it into Hedwig.

Amigurumi Monkey

In my 2nd Book Inspired Craft Week I included the book Summer of the Monkeys and this monkey amigurumi was the project to go along with that book.

Crocheted House Elf

Embroidered Felt Bookmarks

First we have these embroidered felt bookmarks that were part of last year's Book Inspired Craft Week inspired by the book Fritz and the Beautiful Horses.

Reading Tracker Bookmarks

These bookmarks can be used to track reading goals or maybe work towards a reward. Each bookmark has 12 stars that can either have a sticker put on them, or be colored in, each time you meet a reading goal- read a book, read a number of minutes, a number or pages or chapters, etc.

Printable Rainbow Bookmarks

This set of bookmarks were made as part of a rainbow themed blog hop that I participated in a few years ago. It happened to fall during the week of my Book Inspired Craft Week so I wanted to make something book related that also fit the rainbow theme, and these printable bookmarks were the result.

Easy Fabric Bookmarks

I made these fabric bookmarks as a simple beginner friendly kid's sewing project. They are a great small project for kids who are learning to sew and a fun way to use up fabric scraps.

Dried Flower Bookmarks

Leather Bookmarks

I made these Leather Bookmarks as part of a series I participated in with other craft bloggers with the theme Kids Crafts from Around the World. I spent some time in Uruguay as a young adult and they did a lot of leather crafts there and that was the inspiration for this kid craft project.

Hogwarts Scarf Bookmarks

These little crocheted bookmarks were made by crocheting embroidery floss to make little bookmark sized house scarfs.

Washi Tape Bookmarks

These bookmarks are actually Valentine themed, but you could easily switch out the washi tape for any color and they could be used for other times of year as well.

Cricut Cut and Draw Floral Bookmarks

Cricut's draw feature was used to make these paper bookmarks with drawn floral designs.

Embroidered Felt Corner Bookmarks

I made these embroidered corner project as part of a collaboration with other craft bloggers that was all about felt crafts. They are simple to make and really pretty.

Friendship Bracelet Bookmarks

These bookmarks are made the same way you make friendship bracelets, but instead of using embroidery floss to make thin bracelets I used cotton yarn to make them larger and turned them into bookmarks.

Watercolor Bookmarks

I used watercolor paper to make these bookmarks, painting on them with watercolor washes, then using my Cricut to write the words on them and cut them into bookmark shapes.

Book Bags

This next section is bags with book themed saying on them, perfect for using as library bags. All are made with my Cricut and either iron on vinyl or infusible ink.

Belle Book Bag

Belle has always been my favorite princess, mostly because of her love of books and the Beast's library, so I made this library bag with Belle and her nose stuck in a book.

Just One More Story Bag

Another bag made with infusible ink, this one has an open book design and says "Just one more story".

I Heart Books Bag

This little bag has a simple I 💙 Books design. I put it on a smaller bag intending for it to be a kids bag, but you could easily put it on a larger bag too.

Read Return Repeat Tote Bag

This last library tote bag has a simple layered text graphic that says Read. Return. Repeat. I pressed it on a large tote bag using iron on vinyl.

Felt and Fabric Crafts

This category is book inspired or book related crafts made of fabric and felt.

Fleece Superhero Cape

This was a craft from the first Book Inspired Craft Week. It is a simple, low sew, superhero cape inspired by the book that got my oldest daughter to love reading, El Deafo.

Deathly Hallows Shirt

The rose gold metallic iron on makes the design on this Harry Potter themed shirt really stand out.

Shirts for Readers

These shirts were made using designs available in Cricut Design Space, there are several designs available there that are part of Cricut Access, which means they are available as part of the Cricut Access subscription. I chose a couple of designs to make for my daughter.

Bibliophile Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt has a text graphic on it with the definition of a Bibliophile, a person who loves books.

Other Book Crafts

This last category is just for everything that didn't fit in the other categories, Cricut crafts, paper crafts, kid crafts, etc.

Platform 9 3/4 Reverse Canvas

This Harry Potter decor is a reverse canvas, meaning the canvas and wooden frame that it is stretched on are separated, then the frame is put in front with the canvas behind it to look like a framed canvas. It is an easy and inexpensive way to make DIY decor.

Magic Wands

Another Harry Potter craft (a lot of this section is Harry Potter themed). This time magic wands that are made with wooden dowels, hot glue and paint, which now writing that I realize it probably should have been included in the painted craft category, oops.

Sorting Hat Candy Boxes

Paper boxes cut out to look like little hats are used as sorting hats by filling them with candies in colors to match houses. These would be a fun party favor for a Harry Potter themed party.

Hogwarts House Resin Keychains

Use letter keychain molds with mix-ins in colors that coordinate with the different houses to turn them into House Keychains.

Floral Deathly Hallows

This Floral Deathly Hallows design is a hand drawn design that could be put on anything you want. In the post I show it on a reverse canvas with iron on, and on a zipper bag with infusible ink.

Babysitter Kit
