What is better on a hot summer day than a cold treat. Today is Day 2 of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along and today's mini amigurumi is a sweet little popsicle.
The Petite Popsicle is a really quick and simple make and you could make it in any color you want. You could even make striped or multicolor popsicles. I think it would even be fun to make in a striping yarn or some sort of variegated yarn.
I chose to make the shape of popsicle that is kind of flat and wide. I thought that that shape would be easy to make and cute with the little face, and I think it did in fact turn out pretty cute. I made a little pink popsicle because I wanted to use a color that wouldn't be used as much throughout the crochet along, and spoiler alert, there isn't a lot of pink in the rest of the designs in this series. I thought a creamsicle would have been cute, white on the bottom with orange on the rest, but the oranges I had felt too bright. You could use brown to make a fudgesicle, make it red, white, and blue for a rocket pop style (even though the shape isn't quite right for that), or any other color/flavor you want. I think the small size would also make this cute to add a keychain ring to and make a little backpack charm or keychain.
The popsicle is made in 2 parts, the popsicle and the stick. That also means only one small piece you need to sew on, sewing the stick to the bottom of the popsicle. The popsicle is made bottom up, starting with a flat, oval base, then working up to give the height of the popsicle. A cute little smiley face is added to the front of the popsicle. I used small safety eyes and embroidery floss, but you could just embroider the whole thing if you prefer, especially if you are making it for small kids.
I used Red Heart Super Saver in the color Baby Pink for my popsicle, but as I mentioned before you could use any color you want for that part. Then I used a tiny amount of Red Heart Super Saver in Buff for the stick. It was the perfect popsicle stick tan.
Be sure to check back tomorrow to see what mini amigurumi Day 3 of the Summer Cookout will be!
