ASL T-Shirts with Cricut

I am really excited to share another t-shirt collection collaborations with Cricut. Last month I shared my inspirational t-shirt collection and I really loved how those shirts turned out, but today's collections has special meaning for me. This set is American Sign Language themed, using ASL handshapes to spell out words.

ASL I Love You Crocheted Valentine

Just over 8 years ago my second baby, first little girl, was born. We were so excited to add a baby girl to our family and had no idea how much her birth would change our world. With my first baby I don't think I even realized that they that they did newborn hearing screenings because he had passed his, I don't think I realized it until the nurse walked in with my newborn baby girl and told me that she hadn't passed. We didn't really know what that meant, they didn't really know what that meant. They told us that lots of babies fail right after birth because of fluid in their ears so we should just come back in a week, retest her, and chances are she would pass. The only problem is she didn't pass a week later, or the next week, or any of the times over the 2 months that we took her in to have her hearing tested. By the time we finally got some answers and a diagnosis we were more relieved to finally know what was going on than anything else. She was diagnosed with a moderate hearing loss in both ears. Further testing revealed that she had a progressive hearing loss and would most likely eventually lose all of her hearing.

ASL Reading Pillows

I made these pillows as a gift for my son's teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week last week. I hadn't really planned to blog about them so I don't have a lot of pictures. Last year I made gifts for the teachers of both of my kids who were in school. This year I have three kids in school and I really couldn't think of any great ideas of something to make. A couple of weeks ago the PTA sent home a paper asking the kids to do certain things each day and it also included a wishlist for each of the teachers. I decided that rather than getting things they didn't really want or need I would just pick something off of each of their lists. My youngest daughter's preschool teacher got the super exciting gift of a bunch of Clorox wipes. My first grader brought a bag full of little cheap toys to her teacher to put in their class store. When I looked at the list for my second grader I saw that his teacher wanted some pillows for their reading corner. I decided that I wanted to try to make something and pillows were something I knew I could do pretty easily.
