It is Day 3 of my Book Inspired Craft Week. When I am trying to decided on books to include I try to think of books that have some significance to me or someone in my family. Books I loved as a kid, books I read to my kids when they were little, books that my kids have loved as they have gotten older, etc. The book I chose for today kind of fits in a couple of those areas.

Last year around the beginning of March I decided to do a week of Book Inspired Crafts. I chose that time to coincide with Read Across America Week and Dr. Suess's Birthday when a lot of schools around the country are doing read-a-thons and other reading based activities. I have always loved reading and this was a fun way to combine 2 of my hobbies into one fun project. I enjoyed it so much I decided to make it an annual thing, which means it is time for the second annual Book Inspired Craft Week!

Today is Day 5 of Read Across America Week, and my week of book inspired crafts. There is only one more left after today. Each day I have shared a book that I loved but for the last 2 days I have chosen books that are favorites of others in my family. Today's book is a book that has special meaning to me because it is a favorite of my oldest daughter, the book is a graphic novel called El Deafo.

A new month means another Team Creative Crafts collaboration and this month the theme is back to school crafts. It is crazy to think that summer is already coming to an end and kids are heading back to school soon, or in some places already have. My kids head back in a couple of weeks and we have been spending a lot of time lately getting things ready, going to registrations, school shopping, and attempting to get back in a good routine for the school year.

My kids are obsessed with fidget toys lately, and I know they aren't the only ones. Our PTA at one of my kids' schools has a school store and we added pop-its to the things we sell and they have been hugely popular. I have nieces and nephews that love them, kids friends who are obsessed. So not only are they a big hit with my kids it seems like most other kids are just as obsessed with them too.

When I came up with the idea to make the trio of long-legged animals, the Bunny, Bear, and Cat, I wanted them to be toys kids could really play with. In addition to them just being a stuffed animal I wanted them to have clothes and accessories so that my kids could dress them up and play with them.

I loved to read as a kid, I would spend hours every day with my nose in a book. I remember getting in trouble for staying up too late reading. I have always felt like that love of reading is something that I want to share with my kids, but sometimes it seems like they would rather be sitting in front of a screen.

I have a 3 year old who has been obsessed with Halloween lately. He has been talking for at least the past month about what he wants to dress up as, and it changed on an almost daily basis. Last winter I posted a hat pattern, the Bead Stitch Hat, along with a matching cowl. It has since become one of my most popular patterns. I have had a few questions about how to adapt the pattern to make it a child size, the original pattern was only written in adult size. So, over the last little while I have been working on a toddler and child size version of the hat and now it is ready to share.

Halloween is just around the corner so it is time to start thinking about costumes and DIY Halloween costumes are always fun. I like making costumes that are unique, not the same as every other kid that knocks on your door. My kids love superheroes, all superheroes, and they each have their favorites. Even though they have favorites I thought that it would be fun to come up with our own superhero and make a Create Your Own Superhero costume. We would come up with some superhero ideas, including costume colors and logos, then based on that we would create our own superhero costumes.
