Friday Five: 5 Shirts for Back to School

It is time for another Friday Five. This week is the last one before my kids go back to school and it has been a really busy and exhausting week. I didn't get any of the other posts up that I had planned for this week and almost didn't even do this one, but I didn't want to miss a Friday when this is only the third week so I am getting it done. Since my kids are heading back to school next week I thought it would be fun to have this weeks theme be related to kids going back to school- specifically:

I have always loved reading, although lately I spend more time listening to audiobooks than I do reading physical books. But either way I love books. I was the kid that would always stay up way too late finishing my book and always had a stack of books to read. I also loved having books and making my own little library on my bookshelf. I would alphabetize my books and even making little checkout cards to put inside my books.

Yesterday Cricut announced a few new products that they just released and I was lucky enough to get to try them out ahead of time, so I have a few projects planned over the next few days to share using the new products. Since today is Mario Day (MAR10) I thought it would be fun to share a video game themed craft using a couple of the new iron on products.

I have always loved reading, especially when I was a kid. I frequently stayed up way too late at night because I just had to finish the book I was reading. I have a couple of kids that are pretty big readers, especially my oldest and youngest daughters, and it makes me so happy. My oldest daughter stopped by her school library on a daily basis last year to check out books. At the end of the school year she asked the librarian how many books she had checked out that school year and it was over 200! And she hasn't slowed down this school year either. She usually has more than one book that she is reading at a time, which I don't understand at all because I can only handle one book at a time. The table by her bed always has a stack of books on it.

Type 1 Diabetes Awareness & Shirt Design

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and more specifically November 14th is World Diabetes Day. Type One Diabetes is a huge part of our family's lives, and has been for the past 3 1/2 years, ever since my now 10 year old daughter was diagnosed just after her 7th birthday.

It is that time of year when everyone is setting goals and making resolutions. I love this time of year because I enjoy both reflecting back on the past year, and also setting goals for what I would like to accomplish over the new year.

Rainbow Unicorn Infusible Ink Shirts

As we were getting ready to send kids back to school a couple of weeks ago I decided kind of last minute to make a couple of new shirts for some of my kids. I had some fun rainbow colored Infusible Ink transfer sheets that I thought would be perfect for my rainbow, unicorn loving 8 year old.

One of my favorite shirts that I have ever made for myself was a Be Kind shirt. I really liked the design I created and wore it all the time in the fall and winter (it was a long sleeved t-shirt), and I liked the message too. Lately I have been seeing a lot of "Be Kind" type shirt designs, online, in social media ads, etc. One design that I have seen quite a bit is some version of Be Kind where the "BE" is replaced with a "BEE".

When I was designing our t-shirts for Disneyland I created a bunch of different designs, then I had to pick which ones I was actually going to use. I asked opinions from others to help me choose but there were a few designs I had a hard time choosing between.

My three year old is obsessed with Halloween. He loves seeing all of the Halloween stuff in stores. A couple of weeks ago he saw some shirts in the store and I decided I needed to make him some Halloween shirts.

Cricut Be Kind Challenge and Kindness Design Roundup

This is a super last minute post, I actually had something else planned for today but decided I wanted to share this instead. This isn't sponsored, I wasn't asked by Cricut to share this but I think it is an important message and I thought it was really cool that they were doing something to help spread it and I wanted to share it some more. I won't get all soapbox-y about it but I think kindness is something that we need so much more of in the world and when I see initiatives that promote that idea I want to share.

Infusible Ink T-Shirt

A couple of months ago I received a box in the mail from Cricut. It was filled with all sorts of infusible ink goodies and I have shared a few projects I made including a tote bag, and two sets of coasters. In the box they also sent a t-shirt and although I made it around the same time I haven't gotten around to sharing it yet and thought it was about time.

Yesterday I shared a back to school t-shirt design, and today I have another one. Just like the "Smart is the new Cool" design, I wanted it to be a design that was not specific to the first day of school but would still be fun for kids heading back to school.

I wanted to make a couple of Back-to School themed t-shirts this year, but I kind of wanted to do something that wasn't specific to the first day of school or the grade the child is going into. I have seen a lot of the "First Day of First Grade" type of shirts and although they are fun and cute I feel like they are only really good to wear that one day. If I am going to make a shirt I would rather it be something that can be worn over and over again.

I really love all of the vinyl and iron on choices that you can find now. One of my favorites is patterned vinyl and iron on, the patterns can be so cute and fun, but sometimes I have a hard time knowing how to use it best. The bigger the pattern the harder it is for me to figure out what project to use it in because I want to make sure you can see that pattern, while also not distracting from the design that I cut out.

Gamer Girl Shirt

It seems like most video game themed things are made with boys in mind. My boys love playing video games, probably more than anyone else in our house, but a couple of my girls enjoy them too. One of my girls in particular loves playing with her brothers, or by herself. We have a couple of games that are easy, little kid friendly games that she enjoys. Of course I say that knowing that when the kids talk me into playing MarioKart with them I am completely lost, and have no idea how to do anything besides run into walls over and over, so I guess in our house they are little kid friendly but not so mom friendly.

Kindness Begins With Me T-shirt Design

I have been kind of MIA the past month so I never shared the last of my Kindness Collection t-shirt designs. I am going to try to get back on track this month and thought that I would start by sharing the last design, kindness begins with me.
