This year it felt like winter was never going to end and spring would never get here, we were having major snow storms into April. But luckily May has finally started to feel more like spring weather and I am loving it, but that does make posting a new hat and scarf pattern this month feel kind of funny, but there is a reason for it.

Now that September is here and my kids have gone back to school I am ready for fall to be here. Although, I guess if I am being honest I am always ready for fall to be here. It is my favorite season and always has been. I think part of that is because my birthday is in the fall, also it starts the holiday season. But I also just love the cooler weather, the crispness in the air, the changing leaves, the smells of pumpkin spice and apple. I just love all of it.

I was recently sent some yarn to try out from Brown Sheep Yarns and I thought it would be fun to use it to try out a new scarf pattern. The yarn, Stratosphere, is a DK weight super wash wool.

I recently had the opportunity to try out some new yarn, which is always a lot of fun. This time the yarn is Cotton Fleece by Brown Sheep Company.

I recently had the opportunity to try out some yarn from Kraemer Yarns, their Perfection Worsted yarn. Worsted weight is by far my favorite yarn to use. I love the drape and detail you can get with thinner yarns and enjoy working with them occasionally but I always feel like it takes forever to finish a project. I love the quickness of projects made with bulky yarns, but feel like I am somewhat limited on the detail and types of projects I can make. So although I enjoy working with all weights and types of yarns, worsted weight is definitely my go to yarn weight.

Las Flores Crocheted Cowl

I recently had the opportunity to get my hands on some yarn that I was really excited to be a able to work with, and today I am going to share what I made. The yarn is from Manos del Uruguay, and I was really excited when they offered me some yarn for review, I have wanted to try their yarn ever since I heard of them.

Scallop Scarf

I recently received some beautiful wool yarn from Brown Sheep Company, a family owned company in Nebraska, and I was really excited to make something with it. I received 3 skeins of their new Stratosphere yarn in teal, navy, and purple, although they have lots of gorgeous colors. I loved the 3 colors together and originally planned to use all of them together in one project but I couldn't come up with a multicolor pattern that loved so I ended up deciding to use them separately.

I am finally getting around to sharing the last project I made for the Darice blog. One of the things I love about crochet is combining simple stitches to create different patterns. This scarf is made by using a couple of basic stitches, double crochet and chain stitches, to create a neat pattern. 

Bead Stitch Cowl

This cowl pattern actually started out as a hat that I was working on and then I decided to make a scarf to match. I wanted to make something that had a lot of texture to it. I used a combination of a couple different stitches to give me the texture I was looking for. One of the stitches I used was one that I had not tried before, the bead stitch. The bead stitch is similar to a puff or bobble stitch but it is worked sideways around a double crochet in the same row instead of into the row before. I used rows of bead stitch in between rows of half double crochet.

It is always fun to look back at the end of the year to see which posts were the most popular. I like to look back at  all of the things that I have made throughout the year and to see if my favorite projects were your favorites as well. For this post I am only counting projects that were published to my blog in 2017. Through the Cracks Cowl

I made this cowl quite a while ago and have been meaning to get it posted on here but with all of the holiday projects I was trying to get up it just had to wait. I got the idea for it just looking through my stash of yarn that was leftover from other projects and saw a small ball of Red Heart Unforgettable that  was left over from my Spring Colors Scarf. I really like the colors of that yarn but there was just a small amount left and I wasn't sure what I could with it. 

Seafoam Circle Scarf

Over the last couple of months I have made several scarves/cowls that I have been meaning to post patterns for and I just haven't had time to do it. I am finally getting around to posting one today. Part of the reason it has taken me so long is because I wanted a picture of someone wearing it and didn't want to take a picture of myself. Finally I just broke down and took the picture so that could get the post up.

Enchanted Toddler Cowl

A while ago I received a surprise package from Red Heart containing a couple of skeins of yarn for me to try. About a month ago I shared the pattern for a cowl made from the Twilight yarn. At the time I was working on a project with the other skein of yarn but had gotten kind of stuck trying to figure out how to make it turn out the way I wanted it to, so it wasn't done. I really didn't want to just make cowls or scarves with both skeins of yarn because that just seemed too obvious. I really wanted to do something different.

Twilight Cowl Crochet Pattern

A few weeks ago I got a surprise box in the mail from Red Heart Yarns. Inside there were two balls of their boutique yarns, a tote bag and a stitch counter. The Twilight Cowl is the first project I am sharing made with the yarn they sent. I will be sharing the project I made with the other yarn soon. The cowl was made with the Twilight yarn, hence the name of the cowl, not very creative I know but I really hate coming up with names for patterns. Twilight is a Super Bulky yarn with short color changes. To be completely honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the Romantic colorway that they sent me because of the contrast between all of the colors, I think it made it a little busier than I would normally go for. I thought it looked good once it was finished and my daughter loved it, it just isn't what I would normally be drawn to. However they do have some colorways that have different shades of the same color and I think those would work up really pretty and a lot less busy, there is one in shades of blue, another in shades of green, one in grays and a few others as well.
