November 1st means another Bear of the Month, the 11th one in the set with only one more to go. For this month I wanted to make a bear that was related to Thanksgiving in some way, and I ended up landing on a little Pilgrim Bear.
I had originally wanted to make a turkey bear. I envisioned a bear dressed up as a turkey, but I just couldn't quite wrap my head around how to make it turn out the way I was picturing it. So I ended up switching up and making a little Pilgrim Bear instead. I figured that would also represent Thanksgiving really well.
For my Pilgrim Bear I gave him little pilgrim style clothes in dark gray. His jacket, or shirt, I don't really know what you would call it, is split at the bottom with a black belt and gold buckle. Then he has a big square collar around his neck made in cream. His pants are short with little black shoes with buckles and a tiny strip of cream for the socks. Last but not least I gave him a tall pilgrim hat, also with a band and buckle.
As with all of the bears I used the same basic bear pattern as I always do, but because this one has clothes there are some color changes on the bear instead of just working it all one color like most of them are. For the bear I chose to use a light tan color, Red Heart Super Saver in Buff. I have been trying to use a variety of different shades of brown, along with black and white, to make the bears and a lot of the browns I have repeated so there are 2 of the same shade. That is the case with last month's October bear being the same orangey-brown as the March Bear, the September and July bears use the same camel color, and the February and May bears are also the same. I only had one in Buff and that was the Easter Bear from April. That time I specifically chose a really light color because I was going with a kind of pastel vibe for the Easter/Spring theme. This time is was just one that I had only used once and figured it would match well with the color I chose for the clothes and also have good contrast with those darker colors, but you could use any shade of brown you want for your Pilgrim Bear.
For the rest of the colors I used for the Pilgrim Bear were Red Heart Super Saver in Charcoal for the clothes and hat, Black for the shoes, belt, and hat band, and Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Cream for the collar and socks. Then I used a little bit of Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Mustard to stitch on the gold buckles
November means we are so close to being done, only December's Bear left to go. Come back December 1st for the final bear of the year.
