5 Little Monsters: Hearts All Around Crocheted Hat

Hearts All Around Crocheted Hat

I recently ordered a pack of faux fur pom poms from Amazon that came with 12 pom poms in a variety of colors. When my girls saw them they immediately started picking out which ones they wanted me to use to make hats for each of them. My 5 year old loves pink, rainbows, and unicorns. I actually already made her a hat this year, her unicorn hat, but looking through my yarn I came across this rainbow confetti colored yarn and I knew it would be perfect for her and would work with the hot pink pom pom she picked out.  I decided to add a round of pink puffy hearts around the hat. With Valentine's Day coming up I thought hearts would be kind of fun.

I usually prefer to make my hats top down, but because of the heart stitch I made this hat bottom up. It starts with a band of ribbing and then it is mostly rounds of double crochet. I used puff stitches in a contrasting hot pink yarn to make the little round of hearts.

How to Crochet the Hearts All Around Hat

Finished size: child size

You will need:

Instructions:

I made this hat for my 5 year old and it fit her loosely and the ribbing is pretty stretchy so she has stretched it out a little bit by pulling on it. It fit my 9 year old a little better. The repeat is 6 stitches and I used 60, to make it smaller try starting with 54 rows, or try 66 to make an adult size. You will also need to increase or decrease the number of straight rows to make the hat smaller or larger.

This hat is worked bottom-up, starting with the ribbing.

Ribbing:

leave long tail before beginning ch
ch 6
Row 1: sc in 2nd stitch and each stitch to the end (5 sc)

do not cut yarn, stitch the two short ends together with the tail left at the beginning
