5 Little Monsters: How to Crochet: Half Double Crochet in the Third Loop Video Tutorial

How to Crochet: Half Double Crochet in the Third Loop Video Tutorial

I recently posted a couple of new patterns and I have had a few questions on the stitches used in those patterns, specifically the half double crochet in the third loop and the bead stitch. I decided to make a couple of videos to better show how to do each of those stitches.

The half double crochet in the third loop creates a neat texture that almost looks knit. To make this stitch you just work regular half double crochet stitches, you just change up the placement of where you work the stitch. Instead of working in the top of the stitch below you work into the bar on the back of the stitch. As a result the top of the stitch is pushed forward and gives you the sort of faux knit look of this stitch.

Here is the video showing how to crochet the half double crochet in the third loop

Here are a few patterns that use this stitch:

The Bead Stitch Hat

The Bead Stitch Cowl

The Knit Look Hat With Pom Pom

The Knit Look Scarf

Hopefully this video helps you understand this stitch better and you can try out one of these projects or one of your own.
