We are all the way to Day 8 of the Spring Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, which means there are only a few days left. For Day 8 we are adding another animal that is an obvious part of a set of farm animals, a little horse.

The little horse sits the same size as the other animals, about 3" tall. I decided to make my horse brown, with a black mane and tail, and a little white stripe on its face. Most of the horse is made in the same way as the other animals, the body is the exact same as the rest, the legs, ears, and nose similar but with different stitch counts.

But on the part on the horse that is really different than all of the rest of the animals is the mane and tail. Small lengths of yarn are attached to the head to make the mane by folding the piece of yarn in half, pulling the folded end through the stitches on the head, then pulling the cut ends through to secure. The tail is made in the same way, but using a small bundle of yarn. This is basically a larks head knot that you are using to attach the yarn strands to the horse.

Only 4 more animals to go and our little farm will be complete.

Stitch the stripe to the face between the eyes

Ears

ch 3

Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing

Sew ears to the top of the head

Legs

Make 4 with beginning with black yarn and changing to brown where directed, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Sew the 2 of the legs/arms to the side of the body between the body and head, sew the other 2 to the bottom side of the body in a sitting position

Mane

Cut several pieces of black yarn (or the color you are using for your mane) about 6" long

Fold one piece in half, insert your hook around a stitch on the head where you want the mane to be (in between the eyes and down the back of the head), and grab the folded edge, pull that looped edge through (do not pull the yarn all the way through, just the loop made by the folded edge), then pull the tails through the loop and pull to tighten

Repeat this as many times as needed to fill out the mane

Position the strands however you want (I swept them all to one side, pulling a few in front of the ears with most behind the ears) and trim as needed

Tail

Cut 4-5 pieces of yarn about 6"-8" long

Hold all of the strands together and fold in half (just like with the mane pieces but held as a bundle rather than individual strands)

Insert your hook around a stitch on the back of your horse and pull the folded edge through (all strands together)

Then pull the tails through the loop you just pulled up and pull to tighten
