5 Little Monsters: Easy Flannel Pocket Hand Warmers

Easy Flannel Pocket Hand Warmers

It has been pretty cold this past week. I mean, it was the last week of December so that isn't really surprising. We didn't really have a white Christmas but that night it started snowing and continued off and on for the rest of the week.

As I was cleaning up my craft room, which was quite a disaster after lots of last minute Christmas crafting, I had some scraps of flannel to put away. I thought they would be perfect for little hand warmers in case the kids wanted to go out and play in the snow.

These aren't really anything new, I'm sure there are tons of tutorials out there but I still thought I would share. They are super quick to make and all you need are some small flannel scraps and some rice. They are made the same way as rice bags that you can use for aches, just a lot smaller.

Heat them in the microwave for a few seconds to warm them and then put them in your pocket to keep you hands warm.

How to Make Flannel Pocket Hand Warmers

Finished size 3 1/2" x 31/2"

You will need:

  • Scraps of flannel, or 1/4 yard or fat quarter (make sure your fabric has no metallic elements)
  • rotary cutter, mat, and ruler
  • coordinating thread
  • uncooked rice
  • sewing machine

Instructions:

Cut the flannel into 4" squares. You will need 2 squares for each hand warmer, 4 for each set.

Place 2 squares right sides together and sew around 3 sides, leaving the 4th side open.

Clip the corners and turn right side out.

Fill with rice, between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way full.

Fold the raw edges along the top in and sew along the top edge to close.

Heat in microwave for about 30 sec to warm.
