5 Little Monsters: Easy Drawstring Backpacks for Disneyland

Easy Drawstring Backpacks for Disneyland

My family is getting ready to head to Disneyland in a couple of weeks and everyone is super excited. It has been a long time since we took a trip like this as a family. The last time we went to Disneyland was 9 year and 3 kids ago. We have been planning this trip for nearly a year and I can't believe how close it is.
Up until we leave I am going to be working on a few projects I want to make for the trip, either for while we are in the park, or for the car ride. I have had a lot of ideas for projects, hopefully I can get most of them done before we go, although I always seem to have more ideas than time so we'll see how it goes.

Disneyland project number 1 is a simple little drawstring backpack for each of the kids. I thought it would be kind of nice for them to have a small bag to carry a few of their own things in while we are in the park and I saw some plain white drawstring backpacks from Oriental Trading and thought they would be perfect.

I wanted something really small and lightweight so it would be easy for them to carry, but not to big if it ends up in my bag. These backpacks are definitely small, maybe a little on the too small side for my older kids, but they will work. If you have younger kids they are a great size but you might want to find a bigger option for preteens and teenagers. They did have a larger size backpack available that may be a better size for bigger kids.

Of course I needed to do something to the plain white bags to make them ready for Disneyland and I had the perfect iron on to use. I had ordered some rolls of Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars patterned iron on knowing that we had this trip coming up and this was the perfect opportunity to use it.

I wanted to keep it really simple so I created a Mickey Mouse head shape and cut it out of different designs of patterned vinyl. Each kid had a different design so that they could keep their bags separate without having their names on the back for everyone to see.

All of my boys ended up choosing Star Wars designs. Two of my girls chose Pixar designs and one chose Minnie Mouse.

The simple design meant that the backpacks literally took only a few minutes to make. I finished all 6 of them in no time at all, the longest part was probably waiting for the kids to choose which patterned iron on they wanted.
