I love fall, it is my favorite season. I don't know why exactly, there are just so many things about it that I love. My birthday is in the fall, I love the cooler (but not too cold) weather, I love the leaves and the colors of everything. Plus fall leads into the holiday season with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other winter holidays, which I also love.

I also love crocheting in the fall. There are crochet projects that I enjoy making year round, like stuffed animals, dishcloths, bags, and other small projects. But in the fall and winter it is the perfect time to make hats, scarves, blankets, holiday projects, and more.

I know technically fall is still a whole month away, since it doesn't officially start until the end of September. But with the kids back in school I feel like it is time to start working on fall projects. And I figured a new hat pattern was the perfect way to start off my fall crafting.

I have had the idea for this hat pattern on my mind for a while. Earlier this year I made some little dice bags based on a couple of my hat patterns, the String of Beads Hat and the Criss Cross Hat, and I made another version using double crochet stitches. I knew I would need to turn that design into a hat as well.

The hat is made in a very similar style to the other two. It uses rows of half double crochet in the third loop to create raised lines. The others use rounds of bead stitch and crossed double crochet stitches in between, but this one keeps it super simple with rounds of plain double crochet.

It is worked top down and finished with a post stitch ribbing around the bottom. I like to add a faux fur Pom Pom on the top as a fun finishing touch, especially on the larger sizes. The hat pattern comes in 5 sizes: adult, child, toddler, 6-12 months, and 3-6 months.
