crocheted ghost candy bowl for family movie night

Halloween is such a fun time to have family movie nights, there are so many fun movies that you can watch together and when you do it is always nice to have some treats to eat. I thought it would be fun to make a Halloween themed bowl that you could use for treats while you watch a movie and it can double as a candy bowl for trick-or-treaters later. I decided to make a ghost bowl since ghosts are pretty classic for Halloween and I thought it would be fun for a movie night.

I think family movie nights are a fun way to positively use technology with your family. I made this little treat bowl out of 2 strands of white yarn held together to help make it a little sturdier. Once I had the bowl the size that I wanted I added a black edge around the top. I waned to do something interesting so I did a spike stitch around the top edge. Then I added a little ghost face to one side. After that all that was left to do was fill it up with some candy and get ready to watch a movie.

How to Make a Crocheted Ghost Treat Bowl

You will need:

  • white and black worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver)
  • I crochet hook
  • scissors
  • yarn needle
Because this is worked holding 2 strands of yarn together you have two options. You can either use two skeins of yarn so you can pull from each skein or you can do what I did and pull from the center for one and the outside of another so that you can get both strands from only one skein.

Start with white yarn holding 2 strands together and beginning with a magic ring.

Round 1: in mr ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitches] repeat around (30 sc)
Round 6: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 4 stitches] repeat around (36 sc)
Round 7: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 5 stitches] repeat around (42 sc)
Round 8: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 6 stitches] repeat around (48 sc)
Round 9: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 7 stitches] repeat around (54 sc)
Round 10: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 8 stitches] repeat around, join to first sc (60 sc)
Round 11: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 9 stitches] repeat around (66 sc)
Round 12: [2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next 10 stitches] repeat around, join to first sc (72 sc)
Rounds 13-24: 1 sc in each stitch (72 sc)
Finish off white yarn and cut
Attach black yarn (still using 2 strands) in any stitch along the top
Border row: [sc in first stitch, sc 1 row below next stitch, sc 2 rows below next stitch, sc 1 row below next stitch] repeat around, join to first sc, finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Next you will make 2 eyes and a mouth, these are made with only one strand of yarn

Make 2 eyes:

in mr, ch 1, 8 sc, join to first sc, cut yarn leaving long end for sewing

Make mouth: ch 4, in second ch from hook 1 sc, 1 sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch, turn your work and continue working along the other side of the ch, 1 sc in next ch, 2 sc in last ch, slip stitch to first sc, cut yarn leaving long end for sewing

Sew eyes and mouth to the front of your bowl.

Then fill it up with candy and treats and sit down for a fun movie night with the family, or use it to hand out treats on Halloween.

  1. Straight Talk is a much better plan. Unlimited Talk Text and Web. Only 5 gb but it is only $45 a month. Been with them nearly 6 years and it was the company we went with for my now 19 year old 7 years ago. She sends nearly 3000 texts a month ( she used to). You hook it up to the wifi when you are home and that cuts the usage down too.
