5 Little Monsters: Cincuenta Scarf

Cincuenta Scarf

-Yarn for this project provided by Fairmount Fibers, North America distributor of Manos del Uruguay, all ideas and opinions are my own.-

I few months ago I had the opportunity to try out some yarn from Manos del Uruguay. In that post I shared a bit about my connection with Uruguay and why I was so excited to work with this company. When I was given the chance to try out some more of their yarn I jumped at the chance.

This time the yarn I was given to review is called Cabrito. It is a superfine, lace weight yarn made with kid mohair, so it has that sort of soft fuzzy halo effect. It can be used on its own or combined with other yarns. I chose to use mine in combination with another yarn.

2018 was the 50th anniversary of Manos del Uruguay, so they came out with a new limited edition color called "cincuenta". I chose this color for my Cabrito, the colors are bright and fun and I want to make them stand out so I combined it with Alegria in natural. I liked the way the colors popped against the creamy white.

I decided to create a simple pattern that used alternating rows of only white, and white combined with the colored mohair. It is made with basic stitches, double and half double crochet, with a couple rounds of single crochet. It is worked in the round to make a circle scarf.

How to Crochet the Cincuenta Scarf

You will need:

Instructions:

You can adjust the length of your scarf by making your starting chain longer or shorter, I used most of both skeins to make my scarf so if you choose to make it longer you may need more yarn.

As you work you will only use the Cabrito on every other row, holding it together with the Alegria. When you are not using it just let go of it and let it hang inside of the scarf. Pick it back up on the next round. You do not need to cut it on each round. It will blend in on the inside of the scarf.

The colorful rounds are worked in the third loop of the hdc (with the exception of the first) rather than the top of the stitches, you can find a video tutorial showing how to work this stitch HERE

Begin with Alegria
ch 192, join with a sl st to make a circle

Round 1: ch 1, sc in each stitch, join with sl st to first sc (192 sc)

Round 2: pick up Cabrito and hold together with Alegria, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each stitch, sl st to first dc, drop Cabrito (192 dc)

Round 3: working with only Alegria, hdc in each stitch, sl st to first hdc to join (192 hdc)

Round 4: pick up Cabrito and hold together with Alegria, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the third loop of each stitch, sl st to first dc, drop Cabrito (192 dc)

Round 5-18: repeat rounds 3 and 4

Round 19: working with only Alegria, sc in each stitch, sl st to first sc to join (192 sc)

Finish off and weave in ends
