5 Little Monsters: Welcome to Our Web

Welcome to Our Web

I know it is barely September but I am definitely feeling ready for fall. I think once the kids go back to school I am ready to make the switch from summer to fall, and even more once September hits. Part of that is wanting to start working on fall and Halloween projects.

As a crocheter that means more hats, scarves, and other cold weather accessories so there will be more of those coming soon. But I also have been working on and planning other Fall and Halloween projects, like decor and costume ideas. Today's project is one of the Halloween decorations I have been working on. This is a super quick and easy project.

In my craft stash I had some canvas banners that I got from Oriental Trading probably close to 2 years ago. I have used them for several projects, to make door or wall hangings for different holidays. They came in a pack of 12 for about $10, so they are pretty inexpensive, less than $1 each. Even though I have used quite a few of them I still have some left and I decided I wanted to use one to make a little Halloween Sign that could hang on a door or a wall.

I created a design that says "Welcome to our Web", and of course added some webs and a spider.  I wanted to keep it simple so the whole design is cut out of black iron on, no layering or multiple colors. I really like the plain black with the cream colored canvas.

Then to finish it off I found some black lace and ribbon in my trims. I glued the black lace along the bottom of the banner (it was originally a gathered lace, which I didn't love along the banner so I pulled out the gathering thread and turned it into flat lace). Then I took off the not so pretty string that came on the banner and tied the black ribbon to it instead to use as a hanger.

It came together really fast and I think it turned out really cute. I will wait a few more weeks before I actually hang it up, but I think it will be fun to hang on the door in October.

How to Make a Welcome to Our Web Banner

You will need:

Instructions:

Cut out of black iron on. Don't forget to mirror.

Weed your design.

Press onto canvas banner using recommended heat settings.

Cut lace slightly longer than the bottom of the banner. Glue along the bottom edge and wrap the ends around to the back and glue in place.

Carefully remove the string from the wooden dowel. It is hot glued in place so I found that if I just carefully peeled the glue from the dowel it slid right off.

Tie a black ribbon to the ends of the dowel. I added a small dot of hot glue to the back/side of where I tied the ribbon to keep it securely in place. Trim the ends so that they are even and the length that you want.
