I have a video tutorial that I have shared below, but I also wanted to make a written version for anyone who prefers that .
How to Crochet the Sedge Stitch
Sample made with worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver) and an I (5.25mm) crochet hook
Starting Chain:
begin by chaining a multiple of 3 + 2
for my small sample in the video and the picture above I started with a chain of 14 (3x4 = 12 +2 = 14)
Row 1:
sc in 2nd ch from hook, (1 hdc, 1 dc) in same stitch, [skip 2 ch, (sc, hdc, dc) in next ch] repeat until you have 3 ch left, skip 2, sc in last ch
Row 2:
ch 1, turn, (sc, hdc, dc) in first stitch (last sc from previous row), [skip 2 stitches, (sc, hdc, dc) in next stitch] repeat until there are 3 stitches remaining, sk 2 sts, sc in last st
Repeat Row 2
Repeat row 2 until your project is the size you need
