5 Little Monsters: Crocheted Easter Basket in 2 Sizes

Crocheted Easter Basket in 2 Sizes

I feel like January always starts the year off so slow, it feels like it will never end, but then somehow in the blink of an eye here we are in the middle of March and Easter is right around the corner. I have a few Easter projects that I have been working on and I am hoping to get them up with enough time to for you to make them in time for Easter.

The first Easter project that I have is a crocheted Easter basket. Last year I made some crocheted storage baskets with little leather loop handles. I made them in two sizes and they were made with a simple combination of basic single and double crochet stitches. I originally thought I would use a different stitch pattern, but when I remembered those storage baskets I decided instead to adapt that pattern to make Easter baskets.

I followed the storage basket pattern for the most part, with a few small changes. I did not make these baskets quite as deep as the originals, and instead of leather loop handles I crocheted a handle that went from one side to the other.

The baskets are made holding three strands of worsted weight yarn together so that they are stiff and hold their shape. I made the same 2 sizes in diameter as the original storage baskets that they were based on because I thought the bigger size would work well as a regular Easter basket, like one you would fill for your kid, and the smaller size would be more like a favor size Easter basket, like something you could give to friends, coworkers, teachers, etc. with just a couple small candies or eggs.

How to Crochet an Easter Basket in 2 Sizes

You will need:

Instructions:

You will need to hold 3 strands of yarn together for this project. You can do this with anywhere from 1-3 skeins of yarn. I used just one skein of yarn at a time to make the baskets (the larger one took slightly more than one skein total)

To do this take pull out a strand of yarn and fold it so that you have 3 pieces. Kind of a flattened S shape. Hold the end of those three strands together and begin crocheting, you can knot them if it makes it easier. When you reach the looped end take the single strand below and pull through the loop creating another piece with 3 strands. Continue pulling the strand through as you work each time you reach the looped end.

If you prefer you can pull one strand each from 3 separate skeins, or use 2 skeins pulling from both the inside and outside of one skein and 1 more strand from the 2nd skein.
