My last crochet along was the Bewitching Bears Crochet Along which included 6 little Halloween Bears. Since then I have also announced the Bitty Blizzard Crochet Along that will be starting in a couple of weeks, but I also have another crochet along announcement to make that starts soon! This one is a little different than the others I have done, and it was inspired by the Bewitching Bears Crochet Along. So without further ado let me tell you about the...
I enjoyed making the little bears for Halloween, and after that I had a few people ask if I would be making Christmas bears too. I included that as an option when I put out a poll on social media to vote on the Christmas/Winter crochet along theme. It was not the winner, but it gave me an idea that became the Bear of the Month Crochet Along. This crochet along is going to last an entire year instead of just a couple of weeks. One new pattern will be released on the first of each month, so by the end of the year you will have 12 little bears.
Each month a new bear pattern will be released, the same size as the Halloween Bears from the Bewitching Bears Crochet Along, about 6" tall sitting. I have some slightly larger bears that I made before the crochet along and some of those may be remade in the smaller size, similar to the pumpkin bear which was originally made in a larger size, then remade in a smaller size for the crochet along. Each month's bear will be released on the first of the month and will be in some way related to that month, it may be based on a holiday that month, or the season, or something else that is in some way connected to that month.
Everything you need to know about the Bear of the Month Crochet Along:
When- This year long monthly crochet along will begin on Thursday, January 1. It will run throughout the entire year of 2026 with one new pattern being released on the first day of each month. The final pattern will be released on Tuesday, December 1, 2026.
How Does it Work- A new seasonal bear pattern will be released on the first day of each month. The pattern will be posted for free on my blog, where it will remain indefinitely, this means that you can join or start up at any time, even after the crochet along is over, or pick and choose which of the patterns you will make. I will post the link to each new pattern on social media on the day that it is released, as well as at the end of this post (this will be sort of a landing page for the crochet along). Once all 12 patterns have been released in December I will release an ebook that will be available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry that will include all 12 patterns. This is a great option for anyone who wants an ad-free, printable, PDF version of the patterns with all 12 in one place, but they will still remain free on my blog on their individual posts.
What do you need- The main thing you will need for the crochet along is yarn. I use worsted weight acrylic yarn for bears. Examples of yarns I use include Red Heart Super Saver, Loops & Threads Impeccable or Soft Classic, Big Twist Value Worsted, or any other similar weight yarn. With this crochet along being bears you will want some teddy bear type of colors- white, various browns, black, etc., as well as a variety of different colors for the clothes, accessories, and other items that the bears may have or be wearing to make them each different. In addition to the yarn you will need your usual crochet supplies like a hook and yarn needle. I also use safety eyes and noses for my bears, but that is optional and you can embroider the eyes and noses if you prefer. See the full list of supplies below.
You will need:
- worsted weight acrylic yarn in a variety of colors, like mentioned above be sure to have white, but also just a variety of colors that you like
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 8 mm safety eyes (if you don't want to use safety eyes you can embroider them instead)
- 11 mm safety noses (or you can embroider them instead)
- stuffing
- embroidery floss and needle (I mainly use black, you can use it to embroider mouths, as well as eyes and noses if not using safety eyes and noses)
- yarn needle
- stitch markers

Can’t wait. It sounds like fun. I make little amigurumi for the cancer center.
