Today is Day 5 of the Bewitching Bears Crochet Along, which means there is only one day left. Doing a one week crochet along instead of two weeks like I usually do makes it feel like it goes by so fast. I can't believe we are already almost done. For today's bear I made a Little Ghost Bear.

I had something very specific in mind when I envisioned this bear and I was a little nervous about whether or not I could make it happen. Funny story about this design, I actually had an idea for a bear like this several years ago just after I made my pumpkin bear. I think it was maybe the next year I decided to try to make a ghost bear. The idea I had in mind was that I wanted it to look like a teddy bear wearing a sheet type ghost costume. It turned out terrible. I never finished it because it was so bad. I was not sure I could make it work this time but I decided to give it another shot.

This little bear took a lot more attempts  and trial and error than it normally does for me to get to the final pattern, and it still isn't exactly the way I had pictured in my mind, but hopefully it gives the idea of a little bear wearing a sheet style ghost costume.

The Little Ghost Bear is made by making most of the body in white, with less decreases around the neck than the other bears have because I wanted to make it look more draped and less fitted to the head and body. Towards the bottom there is a round of stitches worked in the back loop only, leaving the front loops unworked. After finishing the body you will reattach the yarn at that row and work into those front loops to create the skirt type portion of the ghost costume. I also added little sleeves to make it so that only the hands were peeking out of the costume, as if holes were cut in the sheet. I made the arms, legs, and ears in brown (the color I made the bear), but the muzzle I made with white to look more like the sheet was just draped over the face with the eyes and nose poking through.

Like the others the finished ghost bear sits about 6" tall. It is made with medium/worsted weight yarn, this time using only 2 colors, white and the color of the bear which I chose a brown for my bear. I used Red Heart Super Saver and Loops & Threads Impeccable for the colors of my bear, but any similar yarns would work.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see what the last Bewitching Bear will be on Day 6!
