5 Little Monsters: Friday Five: 5 Crocheted Pumpkins

Friday Five: 5 Crocheted Pumpkins

It is time for another Friday Five- and today I am going to do a fall theme that could be used for Halloween or Thanksgiving, or just general fall decorations. It is also going to be more than just one part because I have a lot more than 5. The theme for this week is going to be Crocheted Pumpkins!

Crocheted Pumpkins

One of my favorite things to make for fall is crocheted pumpkins. I love playing with different stitches and yarns to give them different looks and textures. I have a few pumpkin patterns on my blog that are worked in more of an amigurumi style with increases and decreases to give the pumpkin its shape, but I have a lot that start with a simple rectangle or tube that is cinched up to make the pumpkin. This is just a small sampling of the crocheted pumpkins I have on my blog, so look for a part 2 in a couple weeks- but here are this weeks Friday Five:

1- Bobble Stitch Pumpkins

First on the list is the Bobble Stitch Pumpkin. This is one that starts as a flat rectangle with stripes of bobble stitches to give it a really cool texture. The rectangle is then seamed together on the short end and cinched up to make the pumpkin shape. Because of the simple shape this one is easy to make in a variety of sizes.

2- Easy Ribbed Pumpkin

This is probably the simplest pumpkin pattern I have on my blog. It is also worked back and forth in rows to make a flat rectangle that is seamed and cinched to make the pumpkin. It is made completely with one simple stitch and has a ribbed texture.

I also have a video for this pumpkin, and a plush version made in the same way but with velvety chenille yarn to make it bigger and softer, and with a little stem variation.

3- Crocheted Pumpkins in 2 Sizes

This pattern is one of the first patterns I ever posted, from when my blog was brand new. This one is a shaped pumpkin that uses increases and decreases to make the pumpkin. It may be an older pattern but I still love it and it is a perfect pumpkin for your fall decor.

4- Trio of Textured Pumpkins

This one might be cheating just a little bit, because it is three different pumpkin patterns in one. When I made this pattern I wanted to start experimenting with using different stitches to make pumpkins so I chose 3 stitches I thought would work well and made this pattern. These are all made the same way as the first 2 pumpkins on the list starting with a flat rectangle. The 3 included patterns use the moss stitch, sedge stitch, and basketweave stitch.

5- Pint Sized Pumpkin

This tiny amigurumi pumpkin is only about 3" in diameter and it was part of my Halloween Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along a couple of years ago. Like number 3 on this list it is made amigurumi style with increases and decreases and shaping, and it has a little face on it made with embroidery and safety eyes. This little pumpkin reminds me of those little tiny pumpkins you can get, we would by them for painting when I was a kid. They are a little more flat than the pumpkins you carve, and tiny just like this one.

Come back next Friday for a new theme and another 5 projects, and in a couple of weeks to get even more crochet pumpkin patterns.
