It is almost November and one thing that I like to do throughout the month of November is some kind of activity to help my family focus on gratitude. Obviously we think about what we are thankful for on Thanksgiving, but I like to stretch it out through the whole month if I can. Sometimes it is easy to focus on the hard stuff or the stuff that isn't going the way we want it to and forget about all of the wonderful blessings we have to be thankful for.
I have done trees before, where we added leaves each day with things that we are thankful for, a few different kinds, but I wanted to do something different this year. I wanted to keep it really simple, but I still wanted to be able to see a visual reminder of some kind to represent all of the things we had to be thankful for. I decided on a Gratitude Jar.
All I needed to make my gratitude jar was a plain glass jar, and a little bit of vinyl I cut out with my Cricut. I wanted a largish jar so I went with a quart size, but you could use any size that you want. I have a larger jar I may end up using if this one isn't big enough. Just make sure to adjust the size of the vinyl to fit your jar.
All I did was cut out the words and put the vinyl on the jar. I chose Be Grateful but there are many words or phrases you could use, Give Thanks, Gratitude, Thankful, Count Your Blessings, Blessing Jar, Gratitude Jar, or anything else you can think of that would indicate a jar full of of things you are grateful for.
Then just cut up some pieces of paper where you can write the things you are grateful for, fold them up, and add them to the jar. Share them with other people when you add them in, or keep them private, but either way it will help you focus on positive blessings. I am hoping that as we do this as a family it will help us focus on the many things we have to be grateful for.
How to Make a Gratitude Jar
You will need:
- jar
- Cricut
- adhesive vinyl
- transfer tape
- paper
Instructions:
For this project I just typed the words that I wanted and chose some fonts. You can see the two font options that I chose in my Gratitude Jar project. Size the words so that they will fit on the jar. I made mine 3" wide.
Cut the words out of vinyl. I used smart vinyl but any adhesive vinyl will work.
Weed the image and use transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to the jars.
Cut up papers into strips to write the things you are grateful for.
