It is Day 9 of the Spring 2025 Little Safari Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along. Three quarters of the way through with only 3 more patterns to go. Today's Little Safari animal is a Cape Buffalo.
To be honest, when I first made the list of animals I wanted to include in this crochet along I wrote down water buffalo thinking that was the kind of buffalo that lived in Africa. I knew a type of buffalo was one of the "Big Five" African animals but I wasn't super familiar and thought it was a water buffalo. Then when I was researching it to make it I realized I had the wrong animal in mind and it is actually the Cape Buffalo. The Water Buffalo lives in Asia, not Africa. So this is my little Cape Buffalo.
I was a little bit nervous about this one, those big horns had me a little stumped at first. The are kind of joined at the forehead to make one big horn across the top of the head instead of two completely separate horns like you would normally think of with a buffalo. I knew I couldn't make it look right if I tried to make it one big piece, so instead I made 2 big horns and had them touch in the middle when I sewed them on. I think it worked really well well and gave me the look I was hoping for.
With his big horns this little guy is a lot wider than the other animals, even if he isn't any taller. He also had a big flat nose, little ears and tail
I used a dark brown yarn for the body of the buffalo, with dark charcoal gray for the hooves and a light grayish beige color for the horns.
Come back tomorrow to see what animal is next in the Little Safari. Only 3 more to go!
