It is Day 6 of the Spring 2025 Little Safari Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along. That is kind of crazy because that means we are halfway done. The final animal for the first week is a is a Little Gazelle.
This one was one that took me a while to decide what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to include some kind of antelope in this set, but there are several different antelope that live in the African Savanna. There are Gazelles, Impalas, Springboks, Dik-Diks, Elands, and so many more, even Wildebeests are a type of antelope. And even within those there are different types. I chose to go with a Thomson's Gazelle specifically. Many of the antelope are very similar, especially when trying to turn it into a 3" tall mini amigurumi, so I knew I was just going to choose 1 out of all of the different antelope.
As I mentioned, I decided on a gazelle, and more specifically a Thomson's Gazelle. They are one that came up frequently when I was looking at different safari animals. One of the things that is unique about the Thomson's Gazelle is that it has a light brown body and white underbelly, like many of the antelope, but it also has black stripes on its sides. I thought that would give me something specific to add. However you could leave the belly off completely or just make it white and it would still look like an antelope, maybe it would be an impala instead of a gazelle, or whatever you want it to be.
For the little gazelle I used a light brown color for the body, a cream color color for the belly and nose, and a black (technically a very dark gray) for the side stripes, the hooves, the horns, and a little tail (I forgot the tail in the picture of all of the pieces so it is not photographed).
The horns have some increases and decreases to give them a little bit of a twist. I meant to sew them on so that they twisted towards the back but I wasn't super careful when I sewed them on so they twist in the same direction to one side.
Come back Monday to see what animal joins the Little Safari to start the second week, and there might just be a little surprise in store for tomorrow too!
