It is Day 8 of the Spring 2025 Little Safari Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, and time for another little animal. We are 2/3 of the way done and today's animal is a Little Ostrich!

An ostrich was one of the animals on my list that I really wanted to keep on the list and make sure to include. I think because it was a bird, and I didn't have as many of those to choose from. Plus it is such a unique bird that I thought it would be a really interesting pattern to figure out.

One of the things about the ostrich is that it has a long, skinny neck, which is a little different than the style of animals that I am making. I had to make some small changes to the pattern to give it that sense of a long neck, without changing too much in order to keep the style consistent with the other animals.

To do this all that I did was make the same body and head style as normal, but after decreasing for the neck, instead of immediately doing an increase round like I normally do I added a few straight rounds to give it a longer neck.

I used a dark charcoal gray for the body, paired with a cream color for the feathers on the wings and tail. I used a beige color for the neck, head, and legs, and pink for the beak. The long legs are made a little differently than the rest because they are started at the top and end at the feet which have two toes because that is how many an ostrich has. That was a new little ostrich fact that I learned while making this.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see what little safari animal will be next!
