It is Day 3 of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along and today we have an important part of any backyard barbecue, the condiments!
For my Cute Condiments I made ketchup and mustard. When I was originally planning this series I had ketchup planned for one day, and mustard planned for another day. I was going to make the bottles each shaped differently, more like the bottles you probably have in your fridge. But then, as usual, I had a hard time narrowing my list down to only 12 designs and I thought if I did the ketchup and mustard together as one then that gave me one more opening for something else. So instead of a ketchup bottle and a mustard bottle that were different I decided to go with more of the diner style, refillable condiment bottle.
One thing I thought would be fun about doing it this way is that you aren't limited to making them red and yellow for ketchup and mustard. You could make other colors for other condiments- white for mayo, dark red for bbq sauce, whatever you want.
The condiment bottle is made all in one piece, from the bottom up. I used rounds of working in the front or back loops only (flo or blo) in order to give it the shape it has. Working in one loop pushes the stitches in a certain direction and gives you a sharper edge rather than a soft curve. I used a round of back loop stitches around the bottom to give a cylinder shape with a flat bottom and straight sides. If I had worked into both loops it would have given the bottle a curved bottom. Then to create the shaping at the top I alternated rounds of front loop and back loop to give sort of a tiered effect to the cap section.
I used Red Heart Super Saver in the colors Hot Red and Bright Yellow for my ketchup and mustard but like I said you could use other colors too, whatever color would represent your favorite condiment.
Tomorrow will be Day 4 of the Summer Cookout, be sure to come back to see what mini amigurumi will be next!
