It is Day 12, the final day of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along and the last little food item in the series is probably not a huge surprise because I have hinted at it a couple of times, plus I am sure it is one of the first things many people think of when they think of a backyard barbecue. Today we have a Little Hamburger.
The hamburger was a little tricky to figure out because it has so many pieces that I wanted to include but each one added size to it. So trying to keep it mini size, somewhat proportionate to the others was a little hard. As a result the burger is a little tall and chunky, but I think it is a pretty cute finale for the summer cookout, and one that had to be included in the set.
I also had to decide if I wanted to make the layers by simply changing colors or if I wanted to actually make each layer separately. I really wanted each layer to be separate because I wanted it to look more like an actual burger with a separate bun, burger patty, and toppings. Because I chose to make it that way there are several separate pieces that you then sew all together, but it is a little different than some of the others because instead of sewing one piece onto another you are sewing the whole stack together.
You can also make whatever toppings you like, but I include cheese, lettuce, and a tomato slice. I was going to add onion too, but it was already getting really tall so I left that off. I felt like smaller things like pickles, or condiments, wouldn't be visible from the side so I didn't worry about adding them. Once I made all of the layers I just stacked them up and stitched all the way through the stack a few times, being careful not to pull too hard because I wanted the bun to stay rounded, not be pulled in where the stitches were. Once everything was secure I weaved the ends in and I had a little burger.
I used a variety of colors for this one, mostly Red Heart Super Saver, but one color was a different brand. For the bun I used Big Twist Value in Camel for the outside, then for the inside I used Red Heart Super Saver in Buff. For the patty I used Red Heart Super Saver in Coffee, the cheese was Saffron, the lettuce was Spring Green, and the tomato was Hot Red.
Today is the last day, so there will not be any more patterns in this set, but I will be working on getting the ebook ready in the next couple of days and will add the link here as soon as it is available.
How to Crochet a Little Hamburger
Finished Size: about 3.5" tall
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in dark tan, light tan, brown, yellow, green, and red (sample made in Big Twist Value in Camel, Red Heart Super Saver in Buff, Coffee, Saffron, Spring Green, and Hot Red)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6 mm safety eyes
- Polyfil fiberfill
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
- black embroidery floss and needle
Instructions:
The burger pieces are made separately, stacked, and sewn together to make the burger.
Top Bun
Make 1 starting with dark tan yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (30 sc)
Round 6: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 4 sts] repeat around (36 sc)
Rounds 7-8: 1 sc in each st (36 sc)
Add eyes between rounds 6 and 7, stitch smile below
Switch to light tan yarn
Round 9: work all sts this round in blo, [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 4 sts] repeat around (30 sc)
Round 10: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 11: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)
Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work, don't overstuff, you want the bottom to be flat and the top to be rounded, enough stuffing to hold its shape
Round 12: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 13: sc2tog, repeat around (6 sc)
Finish off, weave opening closed and weave in end
Bottom Bun
Make 1 starting with dark tan yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)

Hamburger Patty
Make 1 with brown yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (30 sc)
Round 6: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 4 sts] repeat around (36 sc)
Round 7: 1 sc in each st (36 sc)

Finish off, weave in ends
Tomato
Make 1 with red yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)

Assembly
Stack the layers in the desired order, I did bottom bun, burger, cheese, tomato, lettuce, top bun
Using a piece of yarn the color of the outer bun stitch through the stack from bottom to top a few times, being sure not to pull the yarn too hard so that the bun indents. Once you have stitched through a few times and the layers are secured finish off and weave in ends to secure.
