Today is the 11th day of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along which means that there is only 1 day left! I feel like the past two weeks have flown by. For today's summer cookout food we have a Cute Corn on the Cob.
I love corn on the cob, and I think it is the perfect side at a summer cookout. But I was born in Iowa so how could I not like corn. I have seen lots of crocheted corn on the cob, but every time I have seen one it is a partially shucked ear of corn, the yellow corn surrounded by green leaves. I think those look great, but I wanted it to look like it was ready to eat as a barbecue, not like it was ready to shuck and cook. I hadn't ever seen anything like that made, I'm sure it is out there somewhere but not that I had come across, and I was really hoping I could bring my vision to life.
I made mine to look like a cooked, ready to eat, corn on the cob, complete with little corn holders on each end. Even though these are mini amigurumi this little corn on the cob is actually pretty close to the real size of the little half size corn on the cobs. There are only 3 pieces for this mini amigurumi, the corn, and 2 of the little corn picks. It is pretty quick and easy to make, just like most of the others.
I used a little bit of cream colored yarn to make the centers of the cob on each end. I used bobble stitches, just like on the pickle yesterday but a lot more of them this time to make the bumpy texture for the kernels. The rounds kind of twist a little as you go around so the rows of kernels aren't perfectly straight, and adding the face on top of the bumpy texture isn't quite as easy, but I think it still works and looks pretty cute.
I used Loops and Threads Soft Classic in Butter for my corn, although after I made it I kind of wished I had used a brighter yellow, like Red Heart Super Saver in Bright Yellow, since cooked corn is a pretty bright color. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Aran for the cob centers. For the holders you can use any color you want, I used Red Heart Super Saver in Brick Red because I wanted a red color, but not quite as bright as red I used for the ketchup and the watermelon.
Tomorrow is the last day of the Summer Cookout so be sure to come back to see what the final food is in the Summer Cookout!
