Today is Day 9 of the Summer Cookout Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, that means we are three-quarters of the crochet along. We only have one drink in the Summer Cookout so far and I wanted to add another one so today we have our second drink, a little glass of lemonade.
I feel like lemonade is a perfect summertime drink so I thought it would be a great one to include in the crochet along. To make my little glass of lemonade I a little cylinder in very pale yellow color, and then I added a little bit of a very light blue along the top edge for the top of the glass. I finished it off with a little bendy straw.
If you aren't a fan of lemonade you can easily change up the color of the drink to be something different. I think pink for a pink lemonade would be really cute. I have been at summer cookouts with homemade root beer so if that is a thing in your family you could change it to dark brown for homemade root beer. Or there are lots of other colors that you could do, pretty much anything you want.
I made the straw a little chunkier than I wanted it to be but when I tried a skinnier size it was really hard to work around and into the stitches, so I decided to make it a little bigger so that it would be easier to make. I used a few slip stitches in place of some of the single crochets to create the bend in the straw.
For my lemonade I used Red Heart Super Saver in Pale Yellow. For the glass I used a very light blue, Loops and Threads Soft Classic in Ice Blue. If you don't have a really light blue you could use white instead, or a pale gray, anything you think could represent a transparent glass. For the straw you could use any color, I originally was thinking of doing a red straw but I decided to use pink instead, still kind of red adjacent but not bright red, Red Heart Super Saver in Shocking Pink.
Come back tomorrow for the Day 9 pattern in the Summer Cookout!
How to Crochet a Little Lemonade
Finished Size: about 3" tall (not counting the straw)
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in yellow, pale blue, and any color for the straw (sample made in Red Heart Super Saver in Pale Yellow, and Shocking Pink, and Loops and Threads Soft Classic in Ice Blue)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6 mm safety eyes
- Polyfil fiberfill
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
- black embroidery floss and needle
Instructions:
The lemonade is made in 2 pieces, the glass of lemonade, and the straw. Both are made starting with a magic ring. The lemonade uses stitches worked in the back loop only (blo) to create the cylinder shape, and the rim of the glass is created by working into the front loop (flo) of the stitches that are left unworked after previously working that round in the back loops. The straw bend is made by replacing some of the single crochet stitches with slip stitches in a couple of rounds.
