It is Day 10 of the Spring 2026 Little Amazon Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, and today's animal is a little bit different than the rest of the animals so far in this series. Today's unique animal lives in the Amazon River itself, the Pink Amazon River Dolphin.
There is a big difference between this little dolphin and the other animals so far in this series. Every other animal has used the same basic body pattern, but as I mentioned in the announcement post for this crochet along there will be one or two animals in this set that will not use that body style. I can turn that body and head pattern into a lot of different animals but there are some that it just really doesn't work for, especially water animals, insects, and some reptiles or amphibians. This little dolphin happened to be one of them.
Even though I did not use the same body I tried to make sure that the size kind of matched with the others so the head of the dolphin is similar in size to the other animals but turned in a different orientation. Then instead of the head and body being 2 distinct sections like the other animals, with the dolphin it just kind of flows together in a tapered shape.
A Pink Amazon River Dolphin looks a little bit different than other dolphins, even beyond just the coloring. One of the differences is that its mouth or snout is longer and skinnier than other dolphins. I didn't make mine super long, just because of the small size of the amigurumi, but wanted to give the effect of long and skinny. They also have a low ridge-like dorsal fin rather than the taller fin that is one of the most recognizable features of other dolphins. They also have a bump on their foreheads, but I didn't include that on my dolphin.
The Little Pink Dolphin only uses one color of yarn, pink. I wanted a kind of rosy pink or muted pink rather than a bright pink so I used Big Twist in Light Rose.
Ten days down, only 2 more to go! Come back tomorrow to see what the second to last animals will be.
