Today is Day 4 of the Spring 2026 Little Amazon Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along. Today's little Amazon animal is a monkey, and since there are so many different monkeys in the rainforest I decided to include a couple of variations.
I knew when I planned the Rainforest theme that I wanted to include a monkey, I mean you just can't do an Amazon Rainforest theme without a monkey. Last year when I did my Little Safari Crochet Along I actually had planned not to include a monkey because I was going to include it when I did this theme later. Then as I was making the safari animals I decided that I had to include a monkey in the safari, so since I already had all of my animals planned I ended up doing a bonus 13th pattern in order to include a monkey, specifically a Vervet Monkey, a little gray and black monkey that lives in the African Savannah.
Now that caused me a little bit of a predicament because I already have a mini amigurumi monkey pattern and I didn't want to just reshare that pattern and not change anything. Or I guess just change up the colors and nothing else. I had narrowed it down to wanting to make either a Howler Monkey, or a Spider Monkey. A Spider Monkey was going to be basically the exact same pattern as the Vervet Monkey in different colors, but the Howler Monkey looked a little bit different so I decided to try to make a Howler Monkey. But because I have a hard time cutting out animals that I want to make I decided to go ahead and make a Spider Monkey too.
The Spider Monkey is made using the same pattern as the monkey in the Little Safari, just switching up the colors. I made my spider monkey in black with a dark gray face and ears. The Howler Monkey is made using mostly the same pattern, but I did change up the face just a little bit, and the biggest change was adding the big chin that Howler Monkeys have.
I wanted my Howler Monkey to be a Red Howler Monkey so I used an orangey brown color for the main color. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Sienna. The Spider Monkey I used black for the main color and I used Red Heart Super Saver in Black for that. Then for the faces of both monkeys I used a dark gray because I wanted it to be "black" but not too black so that you could still see the eyes and there was a little bit of contrast on the spider monkey. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Charcoal for the dark gray.
Four days down means we are a third of the way through. Come back tomorrow to see what Little Amazon animal Day 5 will bring.
