Today we are starting week 2 of the Spring 2026 Little Amazon Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, we are on Day 7. Today's little Amazon animal is one that has been highly requested, joining the Little Amazon today is a Small Sloth.
This crochet along has been a little bit difficult for me because there have been so many animals to choose from and no way to include them all. I have had a terrible time deciding which animals to include and which to leave out. But the sloth was one that was always going to make the cut. I have had many requests for a sloth, or questions asking me if I had made one, so now I do.
I made my little sloth with a light brown yarn, almost a grayish beige color. Sloths come in a range of colors from brown to gray so you could use anything in that family. Then I made a little cream colored face with darker brown eye patches. I still used safety eyes like I do for all of my animals, although you can embroider them if you prefer. But instead of putting them through the head like I normally do, or even through just the one layer of the eye patch, similar to the monkey or toucan that have an additional face layer, this time I actually put the eyes through both the eye patch and face layers. This actually attached the eye patches to the face, and the main reason that I did that is because the eye patches are so small that I felt like the backs would show through and it would be hard to sew around. Then I embroidered the face and finished it before actually sewing it onto the face.
The other thing that is unique about sloths are their "toes". They are enough of an identifying feature that they are grouped by two-toed or three-toed sloths. I wanted to make sure to include them in some way so I first tried crocheting little claw-like toes to sew onto the arms and legs, and I think that is absolutely what I would do if I was making a larger sloth, but on this mini version it just wasn't going to work. They would have been huge no matter how small I tried to make them. So instead I just stitched 3 little cream colored lines on each arm and leg to make the toes. I made mine a 3-toed sloth, both in the number of toes I stitched on the arms and the fact that it is three-toed sloths that have the dark mask-like eye patches.
The colors I used for my sloth were Red Heart Super Saver in Oatmeal for the body color, and Aran for the Face. Then I used Loops and Threads Soft Classic in Dark Taupe.
Come back tomorrow to see what Day 8's Little Amazon Animal will be!

Eye Patches
Make 2 with dark brown yarn, beginning with magic ring
ch 4
1 sc in second ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, sl st in last ch

Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing
Place the eye patches on the face, kind of angled down, and insert the safety eyes through both layers and secure. Stitch the eye patches in place to secure, I just made a stitch or two to tack them in place since the eyes also hold them in place.
Stitch a little nose below the eyes and a little mouth below that.
Sew the face to the head.
Legs
Make 4 with light brown or gray yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Rounds 2-5: 1 sc in each st (6 st)
Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing
Stitch 3 little lines at the end of each arm/leg to make the "toes"
Sew the 2 of the legs/arms to the side of the body just below the head, sew the other 2 to the bottom side of the body in a sitting position
