It is time for another Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along! Today is Day 1 of the Spring 2026 Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along. The themed for this year's spring crochet along is Little Amazon and it will include 12 little mini amigurumi animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest. I'm not going to lie, choosing only 12 animals has been extremely difficult. It was so hard to narrow it down because there are so many animals that live in the rainforest, I hope you enjoy the animals that I chose to include. The first animal I chose to include in this series is a Scarlet Macaw.

I knew I would be including some birds in this series, there are a lot of different birds that could have been included and I wanted to make sure to include at least a couple of them and macaws and other types of colorful parrots are some of the most iconic animals of the Amazon, especially the Scarlet Macaw.

There are lots of different colored parrots so you could easily change up the color of your bird, but I decided to stick with the Scarlet Macaw just because I thought it was one of the most recognizable with its bright red, blue, and yellow feathers.

I used the same body pattern as I use for most of my mini amigurumi animals, and made it very similar to the other birds I have made in the past, with a few small changes. The beak is made similar to the eagle in my camping set in order to give it the hooked end, although I did make it just a little bit larger than the eagle. A scarlet macaw actually has a beak that is white on top and black on the bottom, but using that many different colors in a piece this small can get difficult and since the face is white in that area I liked the look of the black beak more than white so I just went with solid black.

I am not using a specific brand of yarn in this set, because I am trying to use up some of the yarn I have on hand, and these little mini amigurumi are great for using up small amounts of yarn in your stash. I will be using a lot of Red Heart Super Saver, as well as some Loops and Threads Soft Classic and Big Twist Value. I have used Loops and Threads impeccable in the past but I have found that it seems like it is thinner now than it used to be so it doesn't mix well with other worsted weight yarns, so I am not using any of that this time. Any of those yarns will work but just make sure if you are mixing brands that the weights are similar across all the yarns you use. For this particular animals I chose all Red Heart Super Saver yarns. The main color is Hot Red, the white is White, the black is Black, the blue is Blue, and the yellow is Bright Yellow.

Come back tomorrow to see what the second animal in the Little Amazon will be!
