Today is Day 2 of The Bitty Blizzard Crochet Along. Yesterday we had a little snowman but today's pattern is something you can wear in the winter to keep warm. Today's mini amigurumi is a Mini Mitten!
This little mitten is made all in one piece. Normally I show a picture of all of the pieces laid out before they are sewn together so that you can see them pre-assembly, but I don't have a picture like that for this one because there are no pieces, just a finished mini mitten.
It took me a few tries to figure out how I wanted to make the mitten, I went back and forth between working from the bottom up or the top down, making it all one piece or making multiple pieces, and even the size. I ended up deciding on making it from the bottom up, starting with the cuff. I did this for a few reasons but one of the main reasons is that I really wanted it to have an oval base. I didn't want it to be super round, but instead have kind of a flattened, but still puffy shape. To achieve this I started with an oval for the base, then worked up starting with the ribbing, then moving on to the mitten. I made the thumb first, then reattached the yarn to make the rest of the hand.
You can use any color of yarn you want for this mini amigurumi, since obviously mittens can come in any color. I chose to use 2 different colors, one for the ribbed cuff, and another for the rest of the mitten. You can use one color for all of it, 2 colors like I did, or use a whole bunch and make a striped mitten, whatever you want.
I decided to use kind of bright pastel shades for this crochet along. I feel like they worked well with all of the white that is also used, and add a brightness to the winter theme. For the mitten I chose a light purple, kind of periwinkle color, Red Heart Super Saver Light Jasmine, along with white for the cuff.
And that is it for Day 2, a Mini Mitten Amigurumi, check back tomorrow for Day 3.
How to Crochet a Mini Mitten Amigurumi
Finished size: about 3" tall
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in one or two colors (Sample made with Red Heart Super Saver in White, and Light Jasmine)
- G Crochet Hook (4.25 mm)
- 2- 6mm safety eyes
- fiberfill
- yarn needle
- black embroidery floss and needle
Instructions:
The mitten is made in one piece, starting at the base and working up. It starts with a chain, you will work into both sides of the chain to make an oval to begin. At the point where the thumb separates from the rest of the mitten you will first make the thumb, then reattach the yarn and continue the rest of the mitten. The ribbing on the cuff is made with front post stitches worked alternating with regular single crochet stitches.

Round 10 (thumb): 1 sc in each st (8 sc)
Round 11 (thumb): [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat (6 sc)

Add a little stuffing to the thumb (you can add it from the inside or push a little through the opening at the top)
Weave around the opening to close and weave in end
Join your yarn in any stitch of the 18 skipped sts (I joined near the thumb to keep the join less noticeable), continue to work the hand portion of the mitten.
Round 9 (hand): 1 sc in each of the 18 skipped sts (18 sc)
Round 10-14 (hand): 1 sc in each st (18 sc)
Add the safety eyes to the front of the mitten (either side can be the front, just choose which side you think looks best or which side you want the thumb on), between rounds 9-10 about 2-3 stitches apart
Embroider a little smile below the eyes
Begin stuffing and continue adding stuffing as needed
Round 15: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 16: sc2tog around (6 sc)
Finish off, weave in ends

Join and ch 1 or place marker at end of each round?
