It is Day 9 of The Bitty Blizzard Crochet Along, that means we are three-quarters of the way done and only have 3 days left to go. For today's mini amigurumi pattern I have a Pint-Sized Penguin.
I was kind of on the fence about whether or not to include a penguin in this set, because I had a penguin in the Mini Amigurumi Advent Crochet Along and I didn't know whether or not I should do another. But I decided to include it for a couple of reasons, and I am glad I did because I think it turned out pretty cute. Once I decided to include the Polar Bear I decided to include the penguin too, since I feel like they are probably the two animals most associated with cold weather, one from the North Pole and one from the South Pole.
The other reason that I decided to go ahead and include it is that that was my very first mini amigurumi crochet along, and at that time I was kind of just figuring out each pattern as I went. Since then I have made a lot of mini amigurumi and some I still have to figure as I design them, but for things like animals and people I have come up with a more consistent style using the same basic base pattern for each one, adding and changing things as needed to turn it into the animal or character I am trying to make. So with that in mind I decided to make another penguin but this time in the same style as many of my other animals.
For this little guy I used a dark charcoal gray (Red Heart Super Saver in Charcoal) for the body, you could use black but I prefer the less harsh dark gray and I feel like it works better when adding the safety eyes too. I used a little bit of white (Red Heart Super Saver in White) for the belly, and yellow (Red Heart Super Saver in Saffron) for the beak and feet. Then I gave him a little scarf and earmuffs. You could use any color for those, I chose a coral color for the scarf (Red Heart Super Saver in Flamingo), and 2 shades of purple (Red Heart Super Saver in Lavender and Light Jasmine) for the earmuffs.
We are 9 days down with only 3 more days to go! Come back tomorrow to see what Day 10 will be.
