Today is Day 11 of The Bitty Blizzard Crochet Along, only one more day to go! I made today's mini amigurumi as a little partner for the Mini Mitten from earlier in the series, so today we have another little winter accessory, this time a Teeny Beanie.
I wanted to make another winter accessory to go along with the mitten but not all accessories work well in a 3D form, a mitten and a hat seemed like the two that would work the best, so those are the two I decided to make.
I decided to make the little hat in two pieces, plus the pom pom. I really wanted to make a hat brim that looked like it was folded up so that it went over the rest of the hat, rather than just being a continuation of the hat. To do this I made the hat from the top down, then the brim from the bottom up in a separate piece. The brim is a little bit larger so the hat piece fits down inside the brim.
To finish it off I added a little pom pom to the top. I made my own pom pom by wrapping the yarn many times around a couple of fingers, tying it in the middle and then trimming it a lot to get the size and shape I wanted. If you don't want to do that you could leave the pom pom off or use a store-bought pom pom. If using a premade pom pom I would probably use one that is about 1" in diameter.
I have been using Red Heart Super Saver for all of the mini amigurumi in this set. I don't always stick with one brand for the whole set, but this time I kind of based my color scheme on the Red Heart Super Saver Craft Kit in Brights and then I added to it with a few more colors I felt fit well. They ended up being a lot of kind of bright pastel type colors, along with a lot of white. When I made the hat I kind of wanted something that wouldn't be a solid color, but also not crazy busy like the yarn I used for the snowman beanie. I decided on the Retro Stripes color because it gave me some striped color-blocking without having to change colors, but I felt like the colors worked with the other pieces in the set. You could totally use a solid color and it would still be really cute, I just wanted something different so I went with the self striping yarn. I used white for the contrast color on the brim and pom pom.
Today being Day 11 means that there is only one day left of the Bitty Blizzard. Check back tomorrow to see the final pattern in the series.
