It is Day 5 of the Happy Harvest Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, that means tomorrow will already be the halfway point. But today we will be adding another little fruit to the harvest, this time a Postive Pear.
I knew I planned on making a pear from the start, but as I was making my squash from day 2 I did a little bit of trial and error trying to get the shape right and one of my tries ended up looking just like a pear, so I had the pattern figured out before actually actually getting to the pear, I just had to remake it in a different color.
The shape is similar to the squash, but there are a few differences. The change from the fatter bottom to the skinnier top is more gradual on the pear, and the neck of the squash is skinnier in the center and then bulges out slightly towards the top. The stem of the pear is also more like the apple stem than the stem of the squash.
The little pear is about 4" tall, and like all of the little fruits and vegetables in the it has a little smiling face made with tiny safety eyes and an embroidered smile. You can embroider both the eyes and mouth if you prefer, and that is the better option if they will be played with by young children. Or you can even just leave the face off completely, although I think the faces make them awfully cute.
There are a variety of colors of pears, but I wanted to go with a light green because that is the first color that comes to my mind when I think of a pear. I wasn't sure what yarn would be the right color of green, but then I saw in my stash a skein of Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in the color Green Apple and I felt like the lightest shade of green in that color way would be perfect, and if it started to change color it would be ok too, because pears can have some color variation. So I went ahead and used that and I think it turned out the perfect pear color to match with the colors I was using for the rest of my fruits and vegetables. Then I just used a tiny bit of Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Latte for the little stem.

How to Crochet a Positive Pear
Finished Size: about 4" tall
You will need:
- medium weight yarn in light green or desired color for pear and brown for stem (sample made in Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in Green Apple in the lightest shade, and Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe Latte)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6 mm safety eyes
- Polyfil fiberfill
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
- black embroidery floss and needle
Instructions:
The pear is made in 2 pieces, the pear and the stem, the pear starts with a magic ring, the stem starts with a chain.
Pear
Make 1 with green yarn (or desired color), beginning with a magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat (24 sc)
Round 5: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat (30 sc)
Rounds 6-9: 1 sc in each st (30 sc)
Round 10: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Insert eyes between rounds 8-9 about 3 sts apart, stitch a mouth below the eyes
Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work
Round 11: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)
Rounds 12-16: 1 sc in each st (18 sc)
Round 17: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 18: sc2tog, repeat around (6 sc)
Finish off, weave opening closed and weave in end
Stem
Make 1 with brown yarn, beginning with a chain
ch 4
sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each of last 2 sts (1 sc, 2 sl st)
Cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing
Sew stem to the top of the pear
